December Fun--Part 1

It's been a whirlwind of fun around here! We've been so busy that I haven't had the time to sit down and actually blog about it all. So here it goes--catch up time.
Of course December was filled with shopping for Christmas gifts. Only once did I take out both boys on my own. After that, I realized that either people just weren't going to get gifts, or I would wait for the days when Kevin could come with us. I'm happy to say that we were able to buy a gift for everyone on our list, even if we were last minute shoppers. These shopping days wore us all out--the boys fell asleep on the way home.
And of course we had to make sugar cookies to help us get in the holiday mood. Rylan had a ball with the sprinkles. I think half the bottle ended up on the first cookie.
I LOVE sugar cookies. I've made them twice this month. But for some reason I really really do not like making sugar cookies. And here's why...I don't have a standing mixer. I had a very powerful hand mixer that did a fantastic job, but mixing in even the largest bowl I have creates a big mess. Dough flies everywhere and we don't have any pets to clean it up. Okay, so I thought I had a good hand mixer. Last time I made sugar cookies my mixer broke. I was seriously thinking to myself "This mixer has lasted me a long time and it's a cheap brand (sunbeam). What would I do if this mixer broke?" And then it broke. And it seriously was just at the moment I was thinking what a great mixer it was. (I got it for my wedding almost 6 years ago and it really was very powerful. My next hand mixer (which I need to get soon) will be another Sunbeam. I just have to find where they are sold.) Good thing my mom lives close. I called her up and borrowed her mixer. I think now's a good time to talk my husband into getting me a Kitchen Aid! But back to the sugar cookies which I so love to eat. Another reason I don't like making them--they take too long! Not only do you have to make the dough, but then you have to roll them out and bake them. But it doesn't stop there because I like my sugar cookies frosted. So then I have to make frosting and frost them. But I admit. It's all worth it in the end because I sure do love sugar cookies. (Can you tell I'm a very simple person? I'm not one to put too much effort into my cooking and baking. Is that bad?)

I bought Rylan's snowsuit a little big this year, hoping that maybe he can wear it again next year. He hasn't gotten much use out of it so far this year. It took so long for the big snow storms to come. And then when they all hit at once it was so cold I didn't want to take him outside! He played in the snow while daddy shoveled the driveway and hopefully we'll get to go sledding some day soon (maybe this weekend when we get another storm).

Rylan loves bulldozers, tractors, cranes, whatever. Kevin thought it would be fun to put Ry on this bulldozer. Rylan was so excited but he doesn't show much emotion so you'll just have to trust me.

Daddy's Turn

Athleticism has never been one of Rylan's greatest assets and I think I know where he gets that from (or should I say where he does NOT get that from??).

Awhile ago Kevin was tossing a beach ball to Rylan and Ry would hit the ball with a tennis racket. Okay, so you'd think since the beach ball is pretty big Ry would get it every time, right? Let's just say Ry had to practice quite a bit. It's hard to tell in this picture, but he did indeed hit the beach ball and the ball is actually off the ground. Anyways, Kevin played with Ry for quite some time and Ry was hitting the ball most of the time. Kevin left to do something so Rylan brought the beach ball to me and asked me to play. I tossed the beach ball and BAM!...it hit Ry right in the face. Okay seriously, how hard is it to pitch a beach ball at a large tennis racket? Sheesh! Sorry Rylan, you apparently get your athletic abilities from your mommy! Well, after the ball hit Ry in the face, Ry picked it up and said "Okay, Daddy's turn" and off he went to find daddy. Ouch! Maybe I need just as much practice as Rylan.

He's a Blessing

Yesterday was such a wonderful day for our little family. It was Asher's blessing day and it really was such a great day. We have church at 1:00 which isn't usually my favorite time (I would prefer 10:00 or 11:00 but oh well) but having late church is GREAT when you're going to have company over at your house after. It gave me a good amount of time to get ready and make sure the house was decent looking. I gave Kevin plenty of chores and he helped out so much in getting the house and Rylan ready.

We were early enough to church to save some seats and luckily the majority of Kevin's family arrived early. My family on the other hand...well, I'm just happy they were there in time for the blessing!! My entire family was there including my grandparents and my aunt. All of Kevin's family was there, except his parents who are far far away, so they were excused :) It's always so comforting to have the support of family and to be able to share these special times with such great people. I really don't think I'd ever be able to live away from my family...and Kevin knows that. I think if one of us moved, our whole family would have to move.

Kevin did a great job on the blessing. I was a little distracted because Rylan had too much excitement with his cousins at church with him. I kept trying to ignore him so I could hear the blessing but he was not being very reverent...and he's usually very good in sacrament meeting. But what I heard of the blessing was beautiful and brought joy to my heart. I know my Heavenly Father loves this little spirit that is in our home and part of our family and I know He will bless my little Asher throughout his life.

We crammed our families into our house after and they immediately began asking for food...so we fed them. My family helped in providing the food and seriously, I couldn't have done it without them. They are so fantastic in coming up with a great menu and a good variety of foods which all tasted delish. We had a meat and cheese tray with rolls and crackers, sausage rolls, guacamole appetizers, a veggie tray, cinnamon rolls, truffles, fruit and dip, chocolate cream puffs, lil smokies, ooey gooey bars, chocolate pretzels, cucumber toasties...am I missing anything? It was perfect.

I have to admit I was a little sad when it was all over and everyone left...and not because I had a mess to clean up! If it was up to me, I think I'd find a way to have dinner with family every day of the week. It's too much fun not to! And we have to do it all over again because I wanted to get a picture with everyone and I forgot until most people were gone...sad.
So thanks to everyone for coming and supporting and being part of our special day. I held Asher all night and didn't want to put him down. He really is a blessing in my life and I can't wait for all of you to be able to get to know this little who I know has a beautiful life ahead of him.

Happy Turkey Day!

What a good day it is today. Kevin woke me up this morning asking me to make him pancakes before he left to go play football. "Do not tell me you woke me up to make you breakfast" was my reply. Last night he told me he'd let me sleep until the kids (yes kids, plural. I'm still shocked I'm a mother of two!) woke me up. And then he wakes me up to make him breakfast? He left the room and I laid in bed feeling guilty. I mean, it was 7:45 and it's Thanksgiving. How could I possibly be crabby today? I get to spend the day with my family eating loads of delicious food. So I jumped out of bed and hurried downstairs to make the man I love a pancake (or two or more).
With that said I want to mention how wonderful my husband is. I am so incredibly thankful for him. He makes me happy every single day. The least I could do is make him pancakes on Thanksgiving! I'm thankful that with him we are blessed with two beautiful little boys who are the sunshine in my life. I'm thankful for my sweet Rylan who has brought continual happiness into my life since the day he was born. For his shy and laid back demeanor. For all his hugs and kisses. For his ways of making me laugh. I'm thankful for my little Asher who brings a tear of joy to my eyes in the middle of the night when I am able to nurse him and rock him. I'm thankful to be a mother.
And my family. How lucky am I to have my parents a 7 minute walk away? And to have the rest of my family so close that we can get together so often (often to the dismay of the in-laws!!). I love talking to my sisters daily...multiple times a day, in fact. I'm thankful to have such a good relationship with my family that I can cry in front of them and know that I'll be comforted. And I'm super excited to get together with them on this very day to feast on too much food and delicious pies. To play games and talk and just be together.
I'm just thankful for such a good life.

Three Weeks

This little love of mine is three weeks old and cute as a button. Here he is freshly bathed, hence the fuzzy hair. He still sleeps a lot but when he IS awake, he's starting to be awake for longer periods of time. He certainly receives his share of kisses each and every day...and not just from me! Rylan has stopped giving me kisses and gives them all to Asher. I keep thinking that once the novelty of the new baby wares off, then maybe Rylan will equally split those kisses and give me a few.
I got into a brief bad habit of giving Asher his pacifier when he'd cry (and really, he doesn't cry often). He is constantly looking for something to suck on, and what else is a pacifier for? Well, then he really wanted that pacifier and wouldn't sleep without it. For two nights in a row I basically held the pacifier in his mouth all night long. It didn't take me any longer than that to change my ways. Now I let him cry...a little. I've tried getting him to suck on his thumb or hand (because hey, he found his thumb on his own just after being born) but he doesn't seem to be satisfied with that. Oh, what to do?
I recently bought a new sling..."Sleepy Wrap". I love it, and so does Asher (well, from what I can tell he really likes it. As mothers we are given the right to determine what our babies like and what they dislike. At this time I would like to make the decision that yes indeed, he likes the wrap). I just wear Asher around while making dinner or chasing Rylan. Of course in the "Babywise" book they say that allowing babies to fall asleep in the sling and always being near mommy in that manner is not teaching them to fall asleep on their own. I can see that. And with all the hassle we've gone through putting Rylan to bed, I certainly want this little one to learn to put himself to sleep. But I just Love having him with me!

I told Rylan to sit by the baby and I'd take his picture. This is the pose he chose. I tried getting him to look at the camera but he just wanted to look at the baby...I know how he feels!

Howdy Partner

I know, I know, I should have already posted about Halloween. But I was a little pre-occupied so I'm just now doing it. And I couldn't just let it pass because I think Rylan makes the cutest cowboy I've ever seen!

Go on, admit it, you know they don't come cuter than this little cowboy!
Kevin took Rylan to the church for a multi-ward trunk-or-treat. We had a hard time getting Rylan to wear his costume. He missed his nap because that was the day I came home from the hospital. He was crabby and tired and didn't realize he was going out to get candy! I bribed him with a sucker and then we quickly strapped him in his car seat. Kevin said Ry was still unsure when they first got to the church but it didn't take him long to catch onto things.

Then they met up with my bro and his two girls for some trick or treating around the neighborhood.

Of course Rylan ended up with too much candy, most of which we recycled by handing out to trick-or-treaters who came by our house. The rest I greedily consumed, to the shock of Kevin. I'm not much of a candy eater, but you've just got to eat it on Halloween (and the few days after)!
I sent Kevin over to my friend Jana's house so Rylan could see his little buddy...too cute!!

My mom and dad came to my house to hand out candy so I could just sit and rest on the couch. Plus my mom made us dinner--nice! So even though I missed out on Rylan trick-or-treating, I still had a great Halloween!

Hospital Photos

I thought I'd post some hospital pictures because my wee one is so cute! And let's face it, everyone looks absolutely lovely after just giving birth to a baby :) Actually, I don't even have a picture of me looking at the camera so you can't even see just how wonderful/relieved I really look! But what an emotional time, holding your baby for the first time. And isn't it amazing how all through your pregnancy you wonder what your babe will look like, but the instant you meet him you wonder how you never knew? I saw him and instantly knew he was my baby (as if it wasn't obvious enough considering where he just came from!!) Of course, all I needed to do was look at pictures of Rylan as a baby and voila there's my little Asher as well!

This little boy practically came out sucking his thumb. Needless to say, he's been easy to nurse!

Proud Papa

The big Doyle toe (Rylan has been blessed with it as well!)

Unfortunately we don't have a picture showing his weight in pounds. To save you the math, he was 6 lbs. 12 oz.

Who Needs a Name?

So my little babe is one week old...well, one week and one day, but who's counting? We left the hospital without naming him and it's constantly been on my mind. The hospital warned me that we had to have a name by Thursday (today) which is the day they send the info over to the state birth certificate office. All week I've been contemplating, worrying, stressing, and crying over naming this sweet little boy. Why has it been so hard? I've probably been over-thinking it all because really, he'll grow into whatever name we give him, right? We went to the hospital with two names--Asher and Tyce. I like both names and we've received mixed reviews from family/friends on both names. When I was pregnant with Rylan we were debating between Rylan and Andrew. When I saw him I knew he was a Rylan...and I still think that name fits him perfectly. I was hoping the same thing would happen with this baby. But it didn't. I saw him and thought "Yes, he looks like Asher, but he also looks like Tyce". I tried calling him by both names and both felt right but felt wrong at the same time. We tried going through baby names again online but that didn't help. We were adding names to the list instead of narrowing down. So it's been a week of me calling him "baby". If you ask Rylan he says "name is Tyce"...I think Kevin was working with Rylan in secret, coaching him.
Last night Kevin got home from work (his first day back at work...I desperately missed having him around) and we sat on the couch and discussed the names--again. He bribbed Rylan (by agreeing to run in circles around the couch with Ry, his favorite thing to do with daddy) into calling the baby "Asher" which Rylan did immediately and he says it so cute! But today Rylan was back to saying the baby's name is Tyce.
Anyway, after tossing a coin, drawing a name out of a hat, and doing eenie meenie miney mo, as well as confirming the name with Kevin, I called the hospital with the name. So it's official folks. I would like to introduce you to the newest member of our family:

Asher Dennis Doyle

It's A Boy

This is Kevin. Janell isn't feeling like writing because, well ... she just had a baby. So I'm going to pretend like I'm her:

Well, so much for 9 more days left! I went into labor early this morning and had a baby boy at 12:57 pm. He weighs 6 lb 12 oz, 18 1/2 inches long, brown hair, and looks a lot like his older brother. More details and pictures to come once I've recovered a little. We haven't chosen a name yet, but it will be either Asher, Tyce, or Thunderclap the Destroyer. I was feeling some discomfort through the night, but after Kevin left for work, I realized that I could be in labor. I called Kevin around 9 to tell him that I was having some painful contractions and he said he'd come right home. He carpools to work, so he had to find someone willing to let him borrow a car. He did.  I called my Dad and he took Rylan and me to the hospital. He dropped me off, I came up by myself, no one was at the desk so I waited ... then MY doctor showed up and said, "They told me you were coming".

I said, "I feel like I'm going to throw up".

"Maybe you're in labor", he said.

"I don't want them (the doctors) to send me home, I said I wasn't going to be one of those they send home" (no offense)

While munching on his sandwich he said, "Go get checked in and they'll page me".

So the nurse checked me in, and I was dilated to a seven. They were surprised (and let me know) that I was so calmly standing there at a seven.

Kevin, my Mom, Tami, Deborah all showed up for the show. Dad took Rylan for a meal downstairs. I got my epidural and rejoiced.  After a lot of waiting and the use of woman-part-names freely thrown around without restriction, the doctor came, and many nurses arrived. After a few pushes, our baby boy was born.

He is so cute. They weighed him, washed him up, and checked him. I wasn’t able to dispose of my placenta as quickly or effectively as anyone would hope but all is well. He was a little pale initially which caused a little concern, but he got some color a little later. After seeing him suck his thumb, we decided to nurse him; he latched on immediately.

Now, I rest. I’m watching TV while Kevin my handsome and talented husband writes on his computer. I’ve been holding the boy off and on. Kacy stopped by with her children bearing gifts ... thank you. Kevin went and got some Quiznos (beef dip).

10 days to go!

I'm having a hard time believing that I'm really only 10 days away from my due date. It doesn't seem real to me that I could have a newborn in the house in the next week or so...CRAZY! I had a doctor's appointment yesterday. I'm dilated to a 3 and 70% effaced but my wee one is still pretty high. My doc said I probably have another week and I said "Thank you Thank you Thank you!". My doc thinks I'm crazy, but very patient. He suggested I go into labor on Halloween so he wouldn't have to stay home to hand out candy! But I love Halloween so I really want to be able to see Ry in his cute cowboy costume. We'll see how much energy I have to take him around Trick-or-Treating, though!
Since I was induced with Ry (3 weeks early) I really don't know what it's like to actually "go into labor". Since the beginning I've been hoping I won't have to be induced so I can experience that excitement. But now I'm a little nervous about it. Oh, how nice it was to have a scheduled time to be at the hospital! Kevin carpools to work and he's afraid I'll go into labor while he's at work and he won't have a way to get home. (Of course Kacy is close to his work as well as several of his family members...just today Kacy said she would be happy to pick up Kevin if needs be). He'll probably start driving himself to work next week, just in case. And then there's the worry of going into labor in the middle of the night. I'd have to call someone to come sleep over with Ry, and he's SO NOT a good sleeper. He's very unpredictable. Some nights he comes into our room only once (and oh how I LOVE those nights!) but other nights (like last night) he comes in every couple of hours. I think he'd be a little scared if he came into my room and I wasn't there, but suddenly grandma or grandpa appears to try to comfort him. Don't you think that would be a little strange for him? I suppose there's going to be a lot of "strange" things for Ry in the next few weeks. I'm curious to see how he reacts to this new little being that will be sharing his mommy.
So awhile ago I painted the spare room that I was planning on making the baby's room. Kevin started moving the crib in there the other day and then decided he wanted to switch things up and give Ry the new room and put the baby in Ry's room. I had my vision all set for that room to be a baby's room and now he's messing that up! So now who knows what's going to happen, but either way I need to take a picture of the new room soon and post it, because I think it's looking pretty good! I love the color but still need some stuff for the walls and windows. Now that all depends on whether it's a baby's room or Rylan's room...good thing the baby will be in my room for awhile to give me extra time to get this all figured out! I guess that shouldn't be a worry right now and I should be focusing on a NAME. Nope, we still don't have a name and we still rarely talk about it. We just can't seem to come up with a name that sounds right for our baby. We just keep thinking we'll know his name when we see him...so we're still taking suggestions!

Cornbelly's

We had such a great time at Cornbelly's at Thanksgiving Point. Kevin left work early last Friday to join myself and Rylan, along with Kacy and her family, Tami and her family, my parents, and my brother's 2 little girls. We were there for several hours and could have spent even longer if it didn't get so cold! I just love having places for kids to run and play and enjoy being kids.

Rylan loves anything to do with water. He was continuosly going back to these water pumps to race the ducks. Actually, these pumps were a hit with all the kids...I gotta get one of these in my backyard :)

This slide was so slippery and fast it was hilarious to see the kids faces as they went down. Even the adults had some humorous spills at the end. Too bad I didn't get any on camera!

What does this say about my husband? I don't think I want to know!

A Memorable Weekend

Sunday was such an exciting day. It's tradition to meet at the Doyle home for lunch on Sunday between conference sessions. Every conference in October Kevin's mom makes apples and caramel fondu. For lunch this year John and Aubrey (Kev's bro and his wife) made a cream cheese fondu that Kevin's family feasts over. It was delicious!

The weather was perfect so the kids played outside most of the day, raking the leaves and jumping in them and burying themselves in them. They also climbed the apple tree and picked apples. They were looking for the bad apples to throw over the fence, but there were lots of tasty looking apples!

After the second session of conference Kevin's parents were set apart as missionaries. All the brothers participated...it was so neat! We spent the rest of the afternoon visiting and playing games and just enjoying each other's company. We took a large family picture while everyone was present. We were all there around dinner time so Kevin's bro Andy whipped up some yummy spaghetti. We didn't leave until late, after saying farewell to Kevin's parents. It's hard to believe the time has come for their mission. When they got the call it seemed like they had forever until they would leave. And now they are gone! They are in the MTC in Provo until the 17th and then off to Geneva Switzerland they will go for 18 months. Rylan will be 4 when they get home....4!!! It seems so crazy but we are so excited for the wonderful experiences they will have. We've already heard from them several times about the MTC and they seem to be adjusting quite well and relishing each moment. What great in-laws I have!

Kevin had Monday off so it felt like part of the weekend. We ran some errands in the morning and that evening we went up the canyon to see the changing leaves. We didn't quite see all the red I was hoping for but a few trees here and there satisfied me. Rylan was continuously searching out the river so he could throw rocks. That boy LOVES the water!

Welcome Autumn

We had such a fantastic day today watching General Conference. I had an overwhelming feeling of love for the leaders of our church and the relationships they have with each other. What great sessions they had today...can't wait for tomorrow!

Rylan was invited to his first birthday party today (other than family, of course). The little neighbor boy, Nathan, was celebrating for his 3 year birthday. He brought an invitation over for Rylan earlier this week. The party was right during Rylan's nap time but I thought that just maybe with all the kids, fun, and cupcakes he'd be pleasant. Well, he wasn't. For about a half hour he had a great time. Then he started being grouchy and on the verge of throwing fits. Rather than battle with him I decided to get home and get him down for a nap. But when he was being good, it was cute to see him playing with the other kids, giving Nathan his present, and decorating cupcakes with a cute little boy Oliver.

Another thing about today that we loved was the weather. It rained ALL day! It was a nice drizzle...just enough to enjoy the gloominess, hear the drip drip drip outside and cuddle up on the couch with a blanket--LOVED IT! We've had such nice weather lately which we've thoroughly enjoyed. But this rain was welcome and made it really feel like October. Now I need to talk Kevin into taking me up in the mountains to be surrounded by the changing leaves. The mountains are turning red and I want to see it up close! We took the umbrella on our short walk to Nathan's house and Rylan was so excited to hold it. So later in the afternoon he wanted to go stand outside with the umbrella. And just like so many other things around our house it makes a great advertisement for Xango!

Extra Long Bedtime Routine

So I need all the advice and suggestions anyone can give. Rylan's big boy bed situation is not going so well. In fact, I think each day it gets worse. Being tired and pregnant is not a good combo and throwing in a tired and cranky toddler makes some days extra hard.
We spend at least 2 hours every night getting Rylan to go to sleep in his own bed. That includes picking up his toys and getting ready for bed but still, TWO HOURS??? I usually end up in tears and Kevin usually ends up sitting in Ry's room until he's asleep...and then of course Rylan comes in our room several times in the middle of the night wanting to get in bed with us. I feel like we've been pretty consistent in what we do, but obviously we are not doing something right!
So guess what I did today? I went and bought a twin size mattress to switch things up. We're going to set it up in his room and put his crib back together. I'm hoping that by giving him the choice of sleeping in the "big boy" bed or the "baby" bed, which ever he chooses he will just sleep! So wish us luck on this new adventure and again, any suggestions are more than welcome!
Well I can't leave on a bad note so let me share with you something cute (even though this has also added time to our bedtime fiasco). The other night after picking up toys I took Rylan into his room to put on his pajamas. I grabbed his pjs out of the drawer and he went back to the drawer and grabbed more pajamas out. At first I thought he didn't like the pair I had picked but then he went to his bed and grabbed his teddy bear backpack and
monkey. Before he let me put on his pajamas I had to put pjs on the monkey and bear. Okay, if that makes him feel better sure, I'll send monkey and bear to bed as well. So the three of them are dressed in pjs and ready to brush teeth. Sure enough Ry grabs his little friends and off we go to brush teeth. With a wet toothbrush Rylan scrubbed at their mouths and made sure to get the back, front, top and bottom. I thought it was very cute how thorough he was! Task complete. Off to Ry's room to say prayers. I sit down and Rylan hands me the monkey and tells me to fold his arms. Then in a whisper he says "monkey, close eyes". Hmmm, that's a little tricky. So I put my hand over monkey's eyes and Ry put his hand over the bear's eyes. Whew, it's now time to crawl into bed. If only Rylan followed the lead of monkey and bear on this next task I wouldn't be so tired--he tucked them into bed and they stayed there the rest of the night...Rylan however did not. But it sure was cute for him to get them ready for bed. And yes, monkey and bear get their teeth brushed and say prayers with us each and every night!

September Pic (33 Weeks)

I'm really not fond of this picture. I thought black was supposed to make you look slimmer. Does the fake out not apply to pregnant girls? The last few days I've been feeling on the large side and I feel like I'm getting wider. I should have been standing where Deborah is standing--I need that dark door behind me. She doesn't have this big belly to hide! But I can't avoid the way I look because let's face it, it's reality. And hey, I'm pregnant with only 7 weeks to go. Yep, 7 weeks and I know it's just going to fly by. My goal for this week is to get the baby's room painted. I have a vision in my head that will look fantastic. Of course, I had vision for Rylan's room also, and that room, well, it's never been finished. But what's done is cute and really if I just spent a little time on it the unfinished things would help the room out a lot. Maybe that should be another goal...to get Rylan's room done before the baby comes. But look how cute Kacy is. She's gonna be having her baby in the next few days--hopefully!

Now this picture, I'm VERY fond of! My sister threw a party for her hubby and asked everyone to wear a wig because Garren is "wiggin out" that he's 40. It was quite comical and very fun to see. So here's my dad and my lil sis--don't they look great?

He Really Is a Big Boy

It's been several days now, but Rylan is doing great in his "big boy bed". After talking about switching him over to a mattress, and me telling everyone I was hesitant about doing it because he was such a good sleeper, Rylan switched things up and stopped sleeping so well. Nap times were dreaded for me because I was spending way too much time in his room trying to get him to take a nap. Last Thursday I had had enough of that and I decided that if he was not going to sleep, we may as well make the switch. Plus, Rylan had tried to climb out of his crib...yep, just after I had told everyone he had never tried to climb out. So Kevin got home from work on Thursday and I gave him a project...taking the front of the crib off and replacing it with the toddler railings.
Rylan was so excited! Kevin had Rylan "test" it out a few times and all night before bed time Ry kept saying "test bed" and he'd go lay down. I thought it was going to be great! Well, that first night didn't go so well. Rylan came into our room just before midnight calling out "mommy". I have to admit, it was a little creepy! He's done it one other time since and I just haven't gotten used to hearing that little voice so close to me at night calling "mommy". The calling out from the bedroom is a different story. Anyways, I put him right back in his bed and left the room. About 15 minutes later I heard a thump followed by a loud cry. I immediately knew he had fallen out of his bed...sad! I went in his room and held him for awhile until he fell asleep again. Well, throughout the night he was crying out for me and I got little sleep trying to get him calmed down. It wasn't until about 4:00 am that I realized he had a stuffy nose and couldn't breath. Bad night to start the big boy bed I guess!
Well each night since then has actually been pretty good. Even nap times have been successful for the most part. Last night was the second time Ry came into our room. I put him back to bed and I thought he went right to sleep. So I went to the bathroom and heard a strange noise. I called out "Kev" wondering if maybe he got up to do something but the response I got was "It's ABC time". I walked out of the bathroom to see Rylan laying on my bed. He had scooted his car toy into my room and climbed up on it (pressing the ABC button on his way up) to get into my bed. That little stinker! I smiled but immediately took him back to his bed. I really don't mind Rylan sleeping in my bed, but I definitely don't want to make a habit of it so I've been trying really hard to just take him back to his bed.
Anyways, it's hard to let this little guy grow up! We will have to switch him over to a mattress before the baby comes, but for now we'll let him enjoy what he has. He still does get excited about it and he likes to put his monkey to bed, cuddled up with blankets and everything. And I'm glad he's only fallen out of bed the one time! (And if you're wondering, he is holding his nail clippers, and yes, he insisted he sleep with them that night...strange choice, but I'll allow it!)
