A Few Updates

So I still haven't found the perfect bathroom rugs for our newly tiled bathroom. But here's a picture anyways. I just love it!!

And do you notice anything about this picture? Other than a dang cute boy, look at his feet...yep, SANDALS!! So it's officially summer at our house now. The sandals took some getting used to but after daddy taking Rylan outside to run around in his new sandals Rylan accepted them. They cost a little more than what I would normally spend on a pair of shoes that will be worn for just a few months, and I certainly didn't pick them out because they were the cutest shoes I'd seen. But they fit and I was so excited I didn't think twice about them...until I got home and thought "maybe I'll keep looking". ButWhen I ask him to get his shoes he is good about reminding me they are actually "sandals". What a nut!

Called To Serve

We've been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the mission call for Kevin's parents. They expected it on Wednesday and we were all disappointed when it didn't come. Mary Kaye called me yesterday (Thursday) around 1:00pm to tell me it had just arrived! I don't how they did it, but Dennis and Mary Kaye waited until 6:00 to open it so we could all be there for the excitement. And much excitement there was!

They opened the call, and of course Mary Kaye's eyes shot straight towards their mission destination. Her hands flew straight to her mouth and her eyes were wide. We knew it was good! Finally they read it outloud and the room bursted with joy as they read they will be serving for 18 months in the Switzerland, Geneva mission!! Amazing! The call said they will be sharing the gospel as well as serving in the mission office. They couldn't be happier.

They both served French speaking missions at 19 and 21 years of age and amazingly, they've both lived in Geneva Switzerland (Mary Kaye was there for 1 year and Dennis for 3 months). They even have a clock (and maybe some other items) in their home that they purchased while in Geneva. Dennis mentioned that when they initially turned in their papers they both shared a desire for Switzerland but quickly pushed it out of their minds and discussed everywhere they'd like to go...they didn't want to curse themselves!

So Switzerland it is and we couldn't be more excited for them. They leave on October 6th which gives us just a little bit more time to enjoy with them. We love them and know they will be incredible missionaries.

Father's Day

I invited my parents over for dinner last night before the rest of the fam came over for pie to celebrate Father's Day. My dad loves chocolate meringue pie. So, we had chocolate, strawberry, lemon, blueberry and coconut creme pies...all delicious. And yes, I had at least one bite of each! I made the chocolate meringe pie which turned out good, but I need more practice on pie crusts. (And I realize that's not a great picture but hey, we're not photographers around here!) I do love my dad though and I am so happy he's MY dad!

Kevin sure is a good daddy to Rylan. It's so much fun to see Rylan outside working in the yard with Kev or the two of them playing silly 2 year old games. And some days Kevin will get home from work and sit on the couch and watch Curious George with Rylan, which for some reason, I think is super cute!

Home Projects

Before we moved into our house (in January 2007) we wanted to tile. We had planned on tiling the kitchen/dining area, 3 bathrooms, and the pantry. My parents came over on New Years Day of 2007 and spent the day tiling the kitchen and dining area. What a way to start out the new year, huh? Well, it looked great and we intended to tile the other areas "sometime soon". That sometime soon came around this last week! Who really cares that it's a year and a half later...and we're still not done. Don't you find that your house projects always take way longer than expected? Thursday night we stayed up until 2:30am trying to get it done. And guess what? We ran out of tile! Ha ha ha. My brother picked some up on Friday morning and we were able to quickly finish Friday night. What troopers!

We did get a good portion done--the master bathroom which looks amazing, and the entryway and bathroom downstairs. I really love them both. I mostly watched as my parents, my bro, and my hubby worked their fingers to the bone. Kevin and I did the grouting, so at least I did something!

Now we just have to tile Rylan's bathroom and the pantry and the tile will be out of our garage and I won't make my parents come tile our house ever again...this house anyways!!

I haven't taken any finished pictures yet because I'm looking for some rugs. Won't the rugs cover up all the work? Well, yeah, but my bathroom won't look complete without rugs and I can't post pictures of the completed bathroom without it looking complete!
