So last week wasn't the greatest week for us here in the Doyle home. Tuesday night I got a massive headache and I woke up Wednesday morning with the flu. UGH! My throat was sore, my body ached all over, I still had a huge headache, and I had a fever. Without me asking him, Kevin called in to work and said he'd be working from home that day. What a great husband! He sent me back to bed and before I knew it, he had Rylan over at Jana's house so he could actually do some work. (Thanks Jana--you saved us!!)Ry came home for a nap and then Kevin had my sis Tami pick up Rylan and watch him for the evening so he could go to his soccer game. She brought him back just in time for bed...and she even brought over dinner for Kevin :)
So, Kevin left for his soccer game and the phone rang about a half hour later. "Umm Janell, bad news". It was Kevin. He got in a car accident on his way to the game. It was his fault. Luckily the other car had little damage. But our car, our ONE car, had too much damage to even drive away. Sad. My mom came to the rescue and picked up Kevin and brought him home. He was angry the rest of the night. I was so sick, the fact that we were now carless, didn't even bother me!
Thursday I felt better, but still not up to par. Rylan woke up with a little runny nose and we just vegged all day. I think I tried to do too much because Friday I was miserable again. Luckily Kevin had the day off work so again, he was home to take care of Rylan and me. He really brought me everything I needed and checked on me periodically. I knew I married him for a reason!! He even stayed home from the Father and Sons campout on Friday night so he could take care of me. (And he was in charge of the program!)
Saturday morning we were supposed to run in the Race for the Cure with Kevin's sister Steph. In 2004, at 28 years old, my incredibly strong sister-in-law, Steph, was diagnosed with breast cancer. I'm happy to say she's a survivor and she's as strong as ever. She runs the 5k every year with her friends and this year, we thought we should join. Kevin's dad and our niece Ashley also joined in the fun. Well, I'm assuming it was fun, I wasn't there. Yep, I was at home in bed with the flu. Kevin took Rylan and they were gone all day which gave me lost of time to rest uninterrupted. I needed that. Except that by this time, I also had a stuffy nose and a horrible cough so sleep didn't come easily.
Late Saturday afternoon Kevin called. "Umm Janell, bad news". Oh great, Kevin had my dad's truck. I didn't want to hear the line again. After the race, the Doyle family got together for the traditional yard work and planting of the flowers for Kev's mom for mother's day. The keys to the truck fell out of Kevin's pocket. Dallin (nephew) found them by running over them with the lawn mower. Oops! Luckily it was just the single key to start the truck that was demolished. Nothing else was damaged. Kevin drove home in his mom's car and I had to call my mom for a spare key so we could go make a copy. Kevin sure wasn't having the best of the luck with cars.
Sunday, I had called a substitute for my primary class. I thought all was well. I even bought some cupcakes so they could celebrate the birthday of one of the kids in the class. About 30 minutes before church starts, I get a call from one of the other teachers (there are 3 of us called to teach this class) and she says her kids are sick so she won't be there...and she didn't have a sub. That's okay, I thought, surely the
other teacher will be there. I called the other teacher to make sure, and sure enough, she was sick...and she didn't have sub. Oh great, so my one substitute will be there alone? I quickly called a couple who agreed to help out where needed. Whew! Happy Mother's Day to me, right? I was miserably sick and had to deal with this mess. Plus, Kevin and I were in charge of the main dish for dinner with his family that night. But Kevin was thoughtful and made me breakfast--nice!
So really, the rest of Sunday went well, and I just layed around at my house and at the in laws. By Monday morning it was just feeling like a bad cold, and today, I finally got out of the house. I took a walk to the park with Ry. I was exhausted by the time I got there, but I know Rylan was happy to get out. I was happy, too! It was nice being in the sunshine and breathing that fresh air. Life can only get better from here.
We're still carless, kinda. My family has made huge sacrifices and we've always been able to borrow a car when we need it. In fact, my mom's car is parked in my garage at the moment, while she drives my brother-in-laws sports car around! Cute! Our car will be fixed in 2 weeks. Yep, 2 weeks. Will my family still love us after these next 2 weeks???
