Rylan
(December 3, 2012)
*This may be a bit inappropriate for sensitive readers*
Rylan's school had a yo-yo guy come for an assembly. So now all the kids at school want a yo-yo and apparently if the school sells enough yo-yo's they make their money back plus some (from Ned the yo-yo guy). Rylan said he wanted to use some money from his piggy bank to buy a yo-yo ($10) so today he bought one. He came home and started practicing right away and would barely put that thing down. Tonight he wanted to do a yo-yo show for us. Before his show started he was explaining everything and talking and talking. I noticed he was holding himself like he needed to go potty.
Me: "Do you need to go potty?"
Ry: "No, I'm just touching my yo-yo."
Yeah, his yo-yo was in his pants.

Christian's mom had her baby yesterday! After picking up Rylan from school I asked him if Christian told him about his new baby brother.
Me: "What did they name him?"
Ry: "They gave him a Porchickadees name."
Me (giggling): "A Portuguese name, huh? What is it?"
Ry: "I don't know, something in Porchickadees. Christian didn't know what it was in English. It's just Porchickadees."

We went up to Thanksgiving Point to see the Christmas lights. Since we had to leave our house at 4:30 it was kind of an ordeal for us. We had to pick up Kev from work by 5:00 (right there by Thanksgiving Point), go buy some donuts (and shoes for Tyce because I forgot his and I didn't like his shoes anyways...maybe I forgot them on purpose :), eat our dinner in the car (sandwiches, apple slices and chips) and then meet up with the Doyle fam at 6:30 for our 7:00 trolley ride. We were there a bit early so we looked at the reindeer and the ice sculptor, and the boys just ran around. We enjoyed the trolley ride and the lights as well as the hot chocolate and donuts afterward. When all was said and done we were walking back to the car and Ry said "We came all the way up here for THAT?"
(December 21, 2012)
"Did you know when someone tells me it's Christmas then I want to be
nice but if nobody tells me something like that then...I don't really
want to be nice."
Later...
Ry: "Do you think I've been good this year?"
Me: "Are you nice to your brothers?"
Ry: "Wellllllll I'm nice to Tyce."
Me: "Do you tease your brothers?"
Ry: "Sometimes I tease Asher."
Me: "Do you obey mommy and daddy?"
Ry: "When it's close to Christmas I do!"
Asher
(December 14, 2012)
Ry: "Mom and Asher, I have a question for you. Actually, not you mom because you already know the answer. Asher, what's more important...getting presents or celebrating Jesus' birth?"
Asher: "Giving presents to Him."
Ry: "That's not a choice. Getting presents or celebrating Jesus' birth?"
Asher: "Wait, I have a question for you. Why did the chicken cross the road?"
(December 18, 2012)
We were waiting in the car for Rylan to get out of school. Asher was standing up and suddenly fell onto his bum. He laughed and said "I just sat down really fast!"
(December 19, 2012)
Asher: "Don't tell Ry Ry this secret."
Me: "Ok, what's your secret?"
Asher: "I love him."

Christmas Day
Oh, I do love Christmas...so so much!
Our boys are not real early risers. They came in our room close to 8:00am and luckily they all woke up around the same time.
Santa brought the boys a Wii!! I think they were pretty excited about it. Rylan also got an alarm clock and Asher got some dinosaur stamps. Tyce got a little owl pull toy.
After checking out toys and stockings from Santa we got busy opening gifts. Tyce was hardest this year because he has plenty of toys and things from his older brothers. We didn't force him to open his gifts and he definitely took his time. He'd open one and play with it for awhile, walk around the house, eat some crackers and candy, walk around some more, and then if he happened to see an unopened gift he'd sit down and carefully open it. It seriously took him a couple hours to open all three of his gifts :)
I think Ry's favorite was his legos, but he's hard to read. Asher was excited about every single thing. It was the year of shoes for Kev...3 new pairs of shoes for him!! I got a Blendtec and couldn't be more excited!!
We spent most of the morning playing the Wii. I still wasn't feeling 100% but soooo much better so our plans for Christmas dinner with my family were still on. Yea!! I made a green salad to take with us and my mom helped me make my green beans once we got there. Our Christmas dinner was absolutely delicious! My family sure can make some super yummy food :)
The rest of the evening/night we played at the Holman's and we all had a good time. We played games and talked and opened gifts from my parents. It was a perfect day. We were there late, in the middle of the bean game when suddenly Tyce barfed on me. Oh no! I think the poor little guy just ate too much and since it was so late his little body was done. We ended the game, packed up, and headed home. I'm pretty sure all three boys zonked out before we even pulled out of the driveway.
I love my little family, I love my big family, I love my life and I love my Savior. It's a beautiful time of year to celebrate His birth and being surrounded by family is my favorite way to celebrate.

Christmas Eve
This day did not go as planned. We were stuck home since Rylan, Kevin, and I were either sick or recovering. I wrote out a more detailed story of our last few days below (because sometimes I can't just say 'we're sick' and I end up writing too long of a story!)
So, Christmas Eve morning we usually go to breakfast with my family to celebrate my mom's birthday. I look forward to it all year. And we had to miss it. So sad. To make it worse, some of Charlie's family was sick, too. They watched our boys Saturday night while Kev and I went to a movie. Yeah, I'm pretty sure we got them sick :( We also get together for cake and ice cream in the afternoon/evening and again, missed out on that. All day long I was feeling completely bummed and disappointed but I tried to make the most of it. Ry was feeling back to normal and Kevin and I were getting there. So we took the day to completely veg. We watched movies (including Miracle on 34th Street--one of my faves!), took naps, the boys played like crazy, I didn't clean the house...we just spent the day recovering and being couped up in the house together.
Of course the boys were way excited for Christmas and anxious to open their Christmas Eve gifts--a book (our tradition) and pjs (because they needed them so may as well). Rylan didn't say a word when he opened his gift. He immediately opened up his book (Ralph Tells a Story) and read it. He loves to read. I read Asher's book Jumanji to him and Tyce as well as Tyce's book Tickle Time. Then it was bedtime and they had no problem falling asleep!
So although the day did not turn out as planned, it was actually a nice day. We're usually busy busy busy and it was such a low key day that it was a nice change of pace. But next year better bring us a healthy day so we can go back to the busy day full of fun for everyone :)
The last few days...
Well, let's start with yesterday. We had the Doyle family Christmas party that we were all looking forward to. And of course we had church which I was really looking forward to. I love hearing the Christmas music and messages. Best meeting of the year :) Well, Ry woke up and after playing for a while he told me he had a stomach ache. I suggested he eat some breakfast, maybe he was hungry. No, he said it was a different kind of stomach ache. Shortly after he threw up. Sad. Early Saturday morning Tyce had thrown up but it was only once and he seemed okay. So I was hoping Ry's was short lived, too. Maybe they ate something bad? He didn't think he should go to church so I stayed home with him while Kev and Asher went to sacrament meeting to sing in the choir. (Well, Kevin sang, Asher just sat with him.) Kevin came home after Sunday School so I could go to Relief Society where we shared Christmas memories/stories and sang our favorite Christmas hymns. It was nice and I was glad I was able to go.
After church it was time to go to the party at Kev's parents house. Earlier Rylan asked what would happen to his presents if he decided to stay home. I assured him Kevin would bring them home for him to unwrap later. He was fine with that and suggested we stay home so other kids didn't get sick. Well, when I got home from church Kevin felt that Ry would be okay if he went, we'd just stick him in a room by himself where he could lay down and play the ipad or watch a movie. Several times I said I would stay home with him while Kev and Asher went but Kevin was insistent on us all going (and truth be told, I wanted to go so I didn't put up a fight.) Well, on the way up Ry got sick again :( Oh no!
At the Doyle's, Kevin took him downstairs, we warned others Ry was sick and we joined the party. After a delicious traditional fondu dinner I sat down on the couch to relax. I started to feel irritated and I didn't quite know why. Not long later I started to get a bit queasy. I told Kev I was going home. Still insistent on us all being there he suggested I go lay on the couch downstairs with Rylan. I went downstairs and saw kids hovering over him watching him play the ipad and I immediately told Ry to go out to the car. We were leaving. I was so worried about other kids getting sick and I was starting to feel terrible. I took Ry and Tyce outside and suggested Kevin ask to borrow his dad's car so he and Asher could stay. Andy helped me out and sent home Ry's gift from Oakley and my gift from Meeja. I prayed the whole way home that I wouldn't get sick in the car. I was fine. Both Ry and Tyce fell asleep on the way home so I got them in pjs and bed and then got myself in bed. I laid there feeling sick and decided to distract myself and start watching Downton Abbey on my ipad. I got through about 15 minutes before it all began. The rest of the night I was in and out of bed and the bathroom. Ugh! Close to 11:00 I woke up to hear Kev in the bathroom, sick. He said on his way home he started to feel ill and made it home just in time. Sad. It was a long night for both of us and I'm glad to be done with it.

Christmas Festivities
Last night Xango had a 'Reindeer Roundup' for the kids. They had some crafts to do, pizza, cookies, and hot chocolate, pictures with Santa (we missed this but did get a picture of our boys on Santa's chair :), carriage rides (another thing we missed), a viewing of The Grinch, and a visit from Santa who brought them a stocking filled with toys. Fun! Kev mostly helped the boys while I sat at his desk to finish a photo book of Asher I had to have submitted yesterday. So it was mostly my fault we missed out on some of the fun but I think the boys were happy with what they got to do.
Since we were halfway there we decided we'd make a night of it and go up to Temple Square. Tami and her family were going, too, so we hoped to meet up with them. Our paths crossed once so we chatted for a bit and then each continued on our way. We also saw my friend Mindy and her family up there. They were just leaving as we were getting there but it's always fun to see familiar faces :)
As always, the lights were gorgeous! And of course the temple was stunning. I love to be there at Christmas time with all the other people, just enjoying the peaceful feeling. It was a great holiday night!
Don't be fooled...that's not the moon, but a snowflake!!
My boys!!
Not too thrilled to be in the stroller. But he was content :)
I sure do love this kid!
Happier to be out of the stroller but too bundled up to smile :)

You Should See The Other Guy
Friday night I took the boys to a party with friends at the church. Right when we got there the boys started running around with all the other kids. I was talking and Ry came in to me crying. He wouldn't tell me what happened but I saw his eye was red. I took him in to the kitchen where we found an ice pack in the freezer. As I held it to his eye I could feel a bump growing and we all knew he would have a black eye. He sat by me the rest of the night and expressed his feelings of how it wasn't fair that all the other kids were having fun but he wasn't. Silly boy. He didn't want to go play because when I took off the ice pack his eye was so swollen it was blocking his vision and scared him.
When he went to bed he was scared he was going to roll over onto that side of his face and it would wake him up because it hurt. He ended up sleeping well throughout the night and his eye hasn't bothered him at all since. The swelling is down, it's just black and blue!!
Kevin tried to coach him in to saying "You should see the other guy" for when people asked what happened. With his black eye and missing tooth he really looks like he got in a fight :) I tried to get him to say he got hit in the eye with an icicle or something with "You'll shoot your eye out." In the end we've been told when people asked how he got his black eye he just said nothing and ignored them. That's Ry's style.
