April Quotes

Rylan:
(April 6, 2012)
Rylan had just been throwing a fit, spent some time in time out, and Kevin had a talk with him. Once he got calmed down Kevin suggested we dye Easter eggs. So we all gathered downstairs and Rylan pulled me aside and asked me to go to his room with him. He sat down on his bed and with tears in his eyes said "I feel like if you gave me a birthday card and you only put one x on it?"
Me: "I only put one x...what do you mean."
Ry: "Follow me"
So he runs into my room and picks up the Valentine's Day card Kevin made for me. On the back there are some x's and o's. Ry pointed to them and said again "I feel like you only put one x on my birthday card."
Oh, poor little thing needed some extra love. He's such a sensitive kid and he's said a few things lately that have made it obvious that he needs more alone time with mommy and daddy. We cuddled on my bed for a few minutes and talked about all the things I love about him...which is why when he acts like a little stinker it makes me so sad. He really is my buddy!

(April 26, 2012)
Rylan likes to get creative with food and he was trying to figure out what he needed to make a new snack and how many of each cracker, marshmallow, pretzel, etc. He just couldn't seem to focus and that's when he exclaimed "My life is getting so crazy in my head!"

Asher:

(April 2, 2012)
Asher and I had a conversation about resting. He said you can only rest if you are sick. But I told him that sometimes I just need to rest because I'm tired. He told me "You can't rest, only daddy. Because I like daddy."
Me: "So I don't get to rest, because you don't like me?"
Asher: "Well, I like you, too, but only daddy gets to rest...because I like daddy best."
He always has been a daddy's boy! (But I'm still gonna rest if I want :)

(April 3, 2012)
After leaving Gavin's house and a day at the park Asher said "Ahhh, mom, that was a great day!"

(April 7, 2012)
"I washed with pretend soap."

(April  29, 2012)
Asher was hitting me and asking if it hurt. I wasn't having fun with that game so I asked him to stop hitting.
Asher: "But it's just soft."
Me: "I know, but I don't like you hitting."
Asher: "It's not hitting, it's punching"
Tyce has 4 teeth on top coming in and it looks like one on bottom. All at once! Poor little guy!

Weekend Recap

Kev worked from home on Friday. Even though he's working I love when he's home. I did an Insanity workout while Ry was at school. Kev came down occasionally to cheer me on...or tell me to work harder is more like it!

I picked up Ry from school and Christian invited him over. We came home to have lunch and do a few quick chores and then Asher, Tyce, and I walked Ry halfway. Rylan waved goodbye to us after Christian had answered the door.

While Ry was occupied I decided to go run some errands. Deborah was wearing a cute skirt the other day when we went to the Tulip Festival. She got it at Target so I've been wanting to go buy one. I called Christian's dad and asked if he could just drop Ry off at home when he went to pick up Allen from school. That gave me plenty of time to go up to Target and I bought the skirt! Now I need a cute shirt to go with it :) I had called Kev to make sure Ry made it home. Yes, and Christian and Allen were here, too. Asher fell asleep on the way home and slept on the couch for quite some time amidst all the play. Kevin had baked a cake while I was gone and was ready to make frosting. We were out of milk so I left Kev home with all the boys (did I put Tyce down for a nap?) and made a quick trip to Macey's. Okay, I'm really never quick at the store. It bugs!

I made some frosting when I got home and made some tuna on toast for dinner. We kept it warm on the stove until Christian and Allen left. It was close to 7 by the time we sat down to eat.
Towards the end of dinner Dain and Evan stopped by. Always a nice visit! Rylan asked if he could frost the cake. Okay! Then we all had a piece (or two!)
We put the kids to bed after Dain left and Kevin and I enjoyed another piece of cake while watching "The Adventures of Tin Tin". It wasn't until Saturday morning that I realized I fell asleep at the end and I still don't know how it ended!

Saturday morning I went to my cycle class. Kev went running after I got home. He mapped his run after he got home and surprised himself with 9 miles! I tried doing some cleaning but I wasn't getting very far. Kevin and Asher left at 1:30 for their little date to the park and to get ice cream. Asher was very excited about the ice cream. Everytime we asked him what he wanted to do with daddy he said "Go to the ice cream place" "And what else do you want to do?" "Go to the ice cream place"!!

Gavin came over at 2:30 and played with Rylan and then Asher joined in the fun when he got home. I took Ry to Shopko to buy a T-ball mitt but all they had were pink mitts. Tyce fell asleep in the car so I brought those two boys home and then I raced off to Sam's Club for diapers and milk. We were almost out of the gallon I bought just the day before. We don't usually go through milk that fast but Kevin + cake = lots of milk drinking! Once I got home Kev and Ry raced off to Big 5 to get some mitts and a baseball (Kev bought one for himself so they could play catch). The minute they got home we all piled in the car (plus Gavin) and went to my mom's house for a hot dog dinner. The boys had fun of course, playing with cousins. I had fun of course, talking. And poor Kevin doesn't usually have much fun at my family gatherings :( Some time during the day I fed Tyce his first piece of bread and he just gobbled it right down. I had to make him slow down so he didn't choke on it. At my mom's he had some baked beans and loved those, too! I just bought a little bit of baby food and said it was the last time I was going to buy it. Looks like he really is ready for real food! (And a side note...the other day we were looking in the mirror and I was waving Tyce's hand and saying 'Hi' and 'bye bye'. A couple times after that he would wave and today after Sunday School he started waving as people were walking out. Tonight I was getting him ready for bed and I said "say 'bye-bye' to daddy" and he waved!! Oh, babies are just too cute!!)

A pretty standard Sunday. I made muffins for the boys and was tempted to eat one...but I didn't. 1:00 church makes for a long morning but it really is nice to not be rushed. The boys always shower somewhere between 9 and 10 so we're all mostly ready in plenty of time. Somehow we're always late to church. I made meatloaf for dinner. Tyce had some and gobbled it right up! Now if only we could get Asher to eat...
Our ward does Sunday Street Sweets and today it started back up again for the season. The cul-de-sac behind us was hosting and Ry was anxious to go. We were all waiting on Asher to eat his carrot. It was a fun time once we got over there. The boys had some cookies and otter pops and rode their scooters around (oh how I wish we lived in a cul-de-sac!!) The weather was perfect!

Bed time once we got home. Kev fell asleep in the boys room and I can hear Asher snoring.

Friday

We took Ry to school and then took Kevin up to the warehouse. Time flew by today. We were a few minutes late picking up Rylan and then we only had a few minutes before Gavin came over. Rylan asked if he would have to clean up after Gavin left if he didn't play with Gavin. He's such a silly kid--trying to get out of cleanup! He did end up playing with him though and we didn't have time to clean up after he left so Ry got out of it :) Asher and Gavin always play so well together. It's very cute to watch them and listen to them. At one point I heard the three boys talking about being friends and Gavin told Rylan "Me and Asher are best friends"...so cute!!
I tried to do some clean up while the boys played all over inside and outside. As soon as I brought out the vacuum Ry and Asher asked if I would do the vacuum monster. They ask every time! Gavin joined in the fun and I got the downstairs vacuumed.
Amy came to pick up Gavin after 3:00 and we talked outside for awhile while the boys and Camryn rode scooters and chased each other. When they left I walked inside and looked at the clock--4:18. Hurry boys, time to go!! We were supposed to pick up Kevin at Thanksgiving Point at 5:00 (he got a ride up there after lunch). We got our shoes on, grabbed a few necessities, looked for and found my phone, and we finally left at about 4:45. I tried calling Kevin but it went straight to voicemail.
We battled a bit of traffic and then when we hit Orem Rylan got a bloody nose. The boys have had runny noses and he had asked for a kleenex. A minute or two later he said "Oh no!" and I looked in my rear view mirror to see he had a bloody nose. I handed him another kleenex and told him it was okay, just to hold the kleenex up to his nose. Then I heard him start to panic and he said "It's too much blood!" I looked back and he had the kleenex up to his nose but blood was just pouring out of his nose. I'll admit it was a bit frightening to me as well. I grabbed a handful of napkins and handed them back to him as I tried to calm him (and myself!) down. I was coming up on a a freeway exit so I zipped over there and stopped at the first place I could. I was on the phone with my mom (she's always the one to call when I'm in a panic!) as I was trying to hold the napkins to Ry's nose while he kept his head back. I got off the phone and was feeling so sad for my little boy--just because he was so scared! I was calmed down by this point so I think that helped Ry calm down, too! I really need to learn to keep my cool!! Poor Ry had blood all over his face, hands, shirt, seat belt, pants, even Tyce's car seat! Really, I'm amazed at how much blood there was. I've never had a bloody nose so it was shocking. Once the bleeding slowed down I was able to get things semi cleaned up. I had water so I wash up Rylan a bit but he was still a mess. I asked him if he wanted to go inside the bathroom at the gas station but he said he wanted to wait until we got to daddy's work or Grandma Doyle's house. Tyce was crying throughout most of this and Asher was sleeping soundly! Rylan kept saying things like "It's never gonna stop, I'm gonna die!" or "I'm not going to be able to go to sleep ever again because it keeps bleeding!" Is it the fear that brings those irrational thoughts to our mind? Cause I know I have thoughts like that when I'm scared or in a panic, too!
Kevin called when we were close. His phone was dead. When we got to his building he came outside with wet papertowels in hand. Again we tried to clean up some.
When we got to Grandma Doyle's the bleeding had stopped. Rylan insisted on keeping a kleenex up to his nose. Since he had a runny nose, he felt like it was always bleeding. He was okay though and didn't mind us leaving to go see Mission Impossible 3 at the dollar theater. He and Asher ate a pizza for dinner with snacks, I'm sure. They watched a movie and played while we enjoyed our own movie (with Tyce who got a little fussy so I stood up in the back with him and had to leave on a few occasions.)
When we went to pick up the boys Kevin laughed and told me there was a garbage can by Rylan that he had filled up with about 40 tissues, all barely used. Mary Kaye said he'd hold the kleenex up to his nose and get a new kleenex each time it became a little used (mostly with snot from his runny nose!) She sent us home with a box of kleenex for Rylan to hold in the car!

Tyce has been waking up at 6:30 and wanting to stay awake. I'll take him downstairs and let him play while I lay on the floor next to him and try to close my eyes.

Spring Break Fun

Yesterday was another relaxing spring break day. I ended up taking the boys to the green park again, Rylan's request. But that's as exciting as we got!
Tyce has been waking up at 6:30 and wanting to stay awake. I'll take him downstairs and let him play while I lay on the floor next to him and try to close my eyes. I sometimes wish I was a morning person. But I'm not!
After Kevin left for work and we got breakfast out of the way I did a quick Body Rock workout. I then started to get ready right away because we were meeting up with Tami and Deborah and their kids at the Natural History Museum of Utah in Salt Lake at the U. We were meeting at 1:00 so I knew we needed to leave by noon. I was glad Tyce would get a good morning nap in. And it worked perfectly! Tyce woke up just as I was getting Ry and Asher in the car. We were in the car with lunch on our lap at 12:06. Just a few minutes late...
In Provo we got stopped in traffic. Ugh! I talked to Tami and she was behind me so she got off the freeway. Smart. I turned on the radio and they said there was an accident, the freeway was closed. We were at a complete stop, stuck, for nearly 30 minutes. I guess it could have been worse! Our hour drive ended up taking 2 hours!! Asher slept for most of it which was nice. Tyce was hungry so while we were stopped I turned around and started feeding him. A lot of people were out of their cars and since we were stopped I figured it was safe to unbuckle my seat belt! Of course I had only given him a few bites when we started moving again. So I asked Rylan to finish feeding him. He happily agreed and did a great job! He dropped the spoon once and got the food on his pants and Tyce had a very messy face but at least he got to eat...and he was happy! Rylan sure can be a good helper :)

Deborah had been waiting at the museum for over an hour. She and her kids were troopers and walked around until we all got there. Tami of course made it before me, too. I was so glad we all had time and no where else we had to be!!
The museum was great!! There were lots of hands on things for the kids and there was something there to entertain all ages. Asher's favorite was the dinosaurs, which were towards the beginning. So by the end he was a little antsy and ready to go. He saw a picture of some birds eating a dead dinosaur and he had a lot to say about that! Rylan was just happy to be with Kaleb and Kade! He said the whole thing was his favorite and then said he really liked the water and kids room at the very beginning.

We left the museum at 5:30 in lots of traffic. It was rainy and I don't like driving in Salt Lake so it wasn't the most fun drive! I made a detour to the Fashion Place mall to make a quick stop at H&M. Tyce needed to eat as well and of course it was time for dinner for the rest of us!
H&M was busy. I saw a few shirts I really liked and the boys were patient while I tried on some clothes. They didn't have my size in a couple shirts--bummer! We got in line to buy the one shirt I found but it was long and we didn't move after standing there for 5 minutes. The boys were hungry, Tyce was tired, and I wasn't in the mood to wait in line. So we left the shirt on a nearby rack and left. Next time I go I'll make sure I have more time (although my boys were really, really good!)
We grabbed a sandwich and some cookies from Subway and made our way home in the dark and rain. It was time for jammies and bed as soon as we got home so I let Kev put Ry and Asher to bed while I got Tyce in bed. We all had a fun day!

Spring Break: Day 1

Total relaxation was the name of the game today! The boys slept until after 8:00 and were thrilled to wake up to see Abbi and Easton here to play! Deborah was on tv on Fresh Living today so her kids played with us while she was being a tv star :)
We had a very late breakfast (seriously it was practically brunch) of eggs and chocolate chip muffins. The kids played out back most of the morning, jumping and in the sandbox. Tyce napped and Easton and I did all sorts of things. He showed me how baby proof my house is not!! I've forgotten about all the bowls and pots and pans being pulled out of the cupboard as well as the cans in the pantry finding new homes around the house. I've got some things to do before Tyce starts walking (and crawling!) I sure do like my baby mostly staying in one spot :)
After Abbi and Easton left we had some lunch and continued to play. I was anxious to get out of the house but the boys just wanted to stay home. So I sent Kevin a text and asked him if we could do something fun tonight.
About the same time Kevin got home from work Rylan found a show on the weather channel about tornadoes. He's been very into tornadoes for the last year and he watched the storm chasers in awe! We had to drag him away from the tv so we could go to the 'green park'! It's the newest park here in SF and has some really fun things including some recliner swings and some spinning seats. And now they have a nice covering over the play area for some much needed shade. We also have the 'red and yellow park' which is the park we walk to and the 'library park'. We picked up a pizza on the way and enjoyed the nice weather. We certainly weren't the only ones with the idea. There were many, many pizza boxes in the garbage, several other families eating pizza, as well as KFC. The boys ran around on the obstacle course and slides but mostly wanted to swing in the recliner swings.

Tyce really likes to swing, too, so I pushed him while Kev pushed the other two. It was such a nice night!
Once we got home it was time for bed for the boys and time for me and Kev to watch some tv shows!

We had our typical rushed morning getting Rylan off to school. He had kindergarten graduation pictures today so I wanted him to wear a button up shirt just to look a little nicer. He refused. Oh well.
While he was at school I got in a quick workout at home and showered and got ready. Tyce took a short nap and Asher played with animals. We picked up Rylan from school and hurried home to get his music homework done. Ideally we'd do it throughout the week but sometimes it just doesn't happen so we have to rush to get it done before class. He did it while eating his lunch and then we walked to music class. Asher, Tyce, and I stayed with Rylan today. The parents stay every other class. I used to get a babysitter for Asher but he really loves going and he's pretty good to sit by me and quietly participate. So now we all go and we all get to have fun!
Matt invited Ry and Asher over after class but then Pam suggested the park and we were all excited about that idea. The boys had been asking me if we could go to the park after class so having a friend there with them was perfect! Pam and I got to chat while the boys ran around. We were there for about an hour before Pam had to leave to pick up one of her kids from school. Another school friend showed up (Cullen) who is also Matt's neighbor so it was arranged for Matt to go home with him. The boys and I stayed for another half hour or so but most of the time Rylan was whining, screaming, hitting, and just being grouchy to me because he felt it wasn't fair that Matt got to go home with Cullen. He screamed the whole way home and continued to be a grump for the next hour...which I made him spend in his room.
Tyce napped, Asher and I played, I did a little clean up and then made dinner. I was supposed to be at Charlie's house before 6:00 to watch his kiddos while he and Amy went to see Hunger Games (and then they are watching our kids on Thursday so we can see it). I was hoping Kevin would be home by 5:45 so I could leave Rylan home. We've had several late nights and it's hard on Rylan since he has to get up for school in the morning. Maybe that's why he was so ornery today? Kev called at 5:50 and was close but I was supposed to already be at Charlie's so I just took the three boys with me. I didn't feed Rylan thinking he would eat with Kevin so he ate a corndog and some fruit with the other kiddos.
They all had fun playing together, mostly outside. The jumped on the tramp, rode bikes and scooters and played inside for awhile. Megan and Camryn were great to get ready for bed when asked! We read a few books before Charlie and Amy came home. They said the movie was great! I'm soooo excited to see it!!
