New Haircut

Oh how I love this little boy! He really is just so sweet and so much fun. It's hard to see him grow up so fast but it's so exciting to see his personality grow and his little mind putting things together. He's really into tickling lately. He wants to be tickled and he likes to tickle people. I started doing the "give me 5, on the side, cut the pickle, tickle tickle" and he just loves it. Now he comes up to us with his little pointer fingers touching and says "cut pickle mom" which is of course followed by tickling.

I had my haircut yesterday so I decided to get Rylan's haircut as well. A month or so ago Kevin cut Rylan's hair short (well, short compared to what it used to be, and boy oh boy what a traumatic experience that was for me!) and this haircut is even shorter. But he certainly looks handsome! I admit, tears came to my eyes seeing all that hair fall to the ground...he just looks so grown up, and I'm always afraid he's going to lose that auburn color. I grabbed a handful of his hair and asked Kevin to put it in his pocket so we could take it home--He threw the hair on the floor! I'll just keep telling myself that it's just hair because no matter what his hair looks like, he's still my sweet little Rylan!

Party Time

My hubby celebrated his birthday on Saturday (the 9th). Several weeks ago I started asking him what he wanted to do for his birthday and every time I asked, he told me he just wanted to play Xbox with his brothers. He was really hoping I would buy him an Xbox and invite his brothers over, but I liked my idea better...his brother already has an Xbox so I invited ourselves over to their house for a party! No need to buy an Xbox now!

We invited Kevin's family over to his brother John's house. The kids played outside in the sandbox, slip n slide, kiddie pool, etc. while we hung out and chatted in the shade. The boys all went inside to play after we ate our lunch of pizza and caesar salad. (The salad was from Quiznos...if you've never had their caesar salad, you've GOT to try it--delicious!) Kevin opened a few gifts...a card with money from his parents and a new pair of soccer shoes from himself! I made a rich chocolate cake that I've been wanting to make for months now. I spent a lot of time and money on it, and it wasn't quite what I was hoping for. It was good if you like semi-sweet chocolate. For those of us who are milk chocolate fans, this cake was too rich. Oh well, the ice cream was good!

After several hours of Xbox playing, John and Aubrey (his wife) had to leave for a ward party. So everyone was kicked out and we came home with a very sleepy Rylan who had tons of fun with his cousins.

We didn't have any plans for Saturday night but we were all so tired. So after a "Happy Birthday" phone call from Ben, and a quick run up the street for a burger and fries (yes, it was a day full of junk food), we decided to hang out at home and just watch the Olympics. Oh, and Kevin opened his gift from me--a much needed pair of new shoes. And they look good on him, too! Thanks Heather for reminding Ben it was Kevin's birthday. What a surprise!

Who else is totally enjoying the Olympics? I've loved watching the beach volleyball, swimming, gymnastics...all of it!

Do I Have a Mouse in my House?

Luckily there are no mice here, but a chunk of cheese in our house is mighty tasty to a different little critter. I was getting ready to make some sandwiches for lunch today. As I was getting everything out Rylan came in the kitchen wanting to help. While I was doing something other than keeping a close eye on my son, he couldn't resist the tempting smell of the cheese. I heard him say "mmmm, mommy". I turned around to see his little teeth digging into the block of cheese. But oh, was he so happy! This little boy shares a love of cheese with his mommy. I tried to convince him to let me cut him off a piece but he wasn't happy about that. Either he was really hungry and intended on eating the whole chunk, or cheese tastes differently when it's sliced. Our brief battle ended in tears from a small boy who was begging me to just put the knife away and let him sit contededly with his big ol' chunk. Mommy won this battle and it didn't take long for my little mouse to gobble up the slices I gave him.
