Rylan had a comb and was combing out my hair for me.
Ry: "Does that hurt?"
Me: "Nope"
Ry: "Does that hurt?"
Me: "No"
Ry: "Well, what can I do to make it hurt?"
WHAT? At that point I figured I didn't need his help anymore :)

I had just sung songs to the boys before bedtime. This usually happens in Asher's room but tonight we were in Rylan's room. I told Ry goodnight and was leaving his room with a fussing Asher when Ry said "Mom...you're a good mom." Brought a tear to my eye. I love that kid :)
(April 12, 2011)
As we were going into KMart I gave the boys a granola bar. When we left the store Rylan asked "Did you give us that granola bar so we wouldn't ask to buy toys?"
Me: "Yes, I was hoping it would distract you but it didn't work."
Ry: "Nothing will un-distract us...or distract us. Nothing will, mom."
I think he's right :)
(April 14, 2011)
Ry: "Mom, I love you and just you 'cause sometimes daddy doesn't listen."
Kevin and I both laughed because it's oh so true!
(April 20, 2011)
We couldn't find Rylan's shoes and it was time to leave for preschool so I grabbed his church shoes. He immediately started crying and said "I don't want to wear those shoes. The kids will laugh at me." I was shocked because Ry has never been one to care about what he wears and the fact that he was worried about kids laughing broke my heart. I gave him one more minute to look for his shoes but we couldn't find them. As he got out of the car at preschool he said "I hate these shoes" and walked inside wiping away his tears. I seriously felt so sad for him. Until he opened up the door and all the kids yelled "Hi Rylan!" and I knew it was a classroom full of sweet little 5 year olds :)
After I picked him up I asked about his shoes and he said no kids laughed and he had a good day. Later Kevin asked him and he said they were good shoes and he'd wear them again. But I still wonder why he was worried about kids laughing...did he see it in a show or book, or has it happened before? It's hard growing up!

Ry brought home an Easter goodie bag from preschool which included 2 hard boiled eggs, or "cold eggs" as he called them. He asked several times if he could eat one so we cracked one open for lunch. I don't remember the last time he had a boiled egg so I was curious to see if he liked it. I cut it in half and put a little bit of salt on his half and he bit right into it. After a few chews he said "The yellow part tastes like peanut butter."
Me: "It does?"
Ry: "Yeah, gross peanut butter."
He threw away the yolk and ate the white!

Spring Break at the Cabin
Tami had a fantastic idea to get a cabin for a few days over Spring Break. I was so ready for it!
We left Thursday afternoon to head to Duck Creek. Between Rylan and I we had lots of bathroom breaks and stops and the drive took us longer than anticipated. But we made it and were welcomed by my dad and the Holman clan. My mom was on her way and made it in the dark. We were all ready for loads of fun, food, talk, reading and relaxation!
We seriously lounged around all day on Friday after sleeping in. Well, Kevin let me sleep in after he got up with Asher. Asher had a bit of a stuffy nose and he didn't sleep very well. But he was happy as could be when he woke up and he was ready to play--even though no one else was awake! Anyways, we played lots of games (mostly Blokus and Rage) while the kids ran around and entertained each other.

Brooklyn is Asher's best friend and he never let her out of his sight. Maybe I should pay her after babysitting my kid all weekend!

We took naps, watched tv, talked, and of course, played on the ipods (iTouches or iPhones). Whether it was watching someone else play, or each kid having their own, I think the ipods were used non-stop!

Saturday we headed down to Zions for a few hikes and a picnic lunch. Rylan rode with the Holmans and Kev, Asher, and I rode with my parents. Asher loved sitting in the middle of the back seat of my dad's truck! It was a nice drive through some small towns (including one with a sign that said "Home of the Ho-made pie"...mom and I laughed about that. Dad wanted to stop.) We were thrilled to get to Zions to find out it was free that week! Hooray! It was also crazy busy, but that's okay. Our drive through the park was gorgeous. Asher especially loved the tunnels and wanted to go through them again and again!

The Holman's found us a great parking spot and off we went to the Emerald Pools. Somehow Tami was carrying Asher and she later passed him off to my mom and dad. It's great being pregnant :) Rylan said his legs were too tired and he needed Kevin to carry him. Rylan has this thing about tired legs. We keep trying to get him to work out his legs so they get stronger, but I think really it's just an easy excuse to get a shoulder ride. And Kevin gave in! He made a deal...Kevin carried him on the uphills and Ry had to walk on the downhill. So, it worked out.

Of course we had to make a stop for ice cream. I suggested to Kevin that he buy two ice cream cones and the 4 of us would share them. HA! I thought they looked big, but our boys licked those ice cream cones without stopping. Kevin did get to sneak in a few bites and I took over my dad's slushy drink after it gave him a headache.
We took another hike up to a waterfall. It was a pretty steep hike, but short, and Rylan walked up and down the whole way! (Well, he was running down and about 3/4 of the way down he tripped...too close to the edge which scared me. I ran down and sat down next to him until Kevin got there to pick him up. Then I think Kevin carried him the rest of the way.) We had fun getting sprinkled on by the waterfall and really, just being out in nature!

We were all just about ready for a late lunch so we sat underneath two large trees that occasionally dropped little caterpillars on us (and even in our pickle jar--Gross!) Other than that it was a nice lunch and then it was time to pack up and head out.
Okay, funny story. My dad had some Fruit Striped Gum that he had handed out to the kids. We were on the shuttle and I was lucky enough to be sitting by Mykenna. She had her gum wrapper and read the instructions for the tattoo. Well, the instructions started on #3 where it said to apply to wet surface. So she put it on her tongue and followed instruction #4 to press for 15 seconds. Afterwards she showed us all her tongue tattoo and we all commented on how cool it was they had a tattoo on their gum wrappers for tongues. So then a few seconds later Mykenna notices, on a different part of the wrapper, instructions #1 and #2 where you are told to apply hand lotion and then the tattoo on your hand. What? It's not a tongue tattoo? All Mykenna said was "Oops" and I laughed so hard I had tears!

As soon as we got in the truck to leave Asher was again excited to go through the tunnels and our drive back was nice and quick. And what did we do once we got back to the cabin? More games of course! We played and talked and ate and watched tv, ending the night with a Toy Story marathon.
Sunday morning was another casual, laid back morning. My parents were the first to pack up and leave (about noonish?) and after the rest of us got packed up we decided to play a game of Beans. Perfect ending to a perfect weekend!
I tried to sleep on our way home but the boys wouldn't let me. And then when I finally did fall asleep Kevin swerved off the road (I still don't know why) and woke me up by driving on those bumps on the side of the road. That scared me enough to keep me awake for the rest of the drive. I read a lot of my book (My Name is Asher Lev) while Kev listened to his book and we were home before 6:30. Since Asher hadn't taken a nap all weekend and had late nights every night, we decided an early bedtime would be good. By 7:45 the boys were asleep and they didn't wake up until 7:30 (Ry) and 8:30 (Asher) Monday morning!

A Few Pregnancy Thoughts
I'm getting so big it's hard to bend over. I find myself just looking at the mess on the floor, not wanting to bend over to pick it up!
Rylan wants to name the baby "Baby". He'll occasionally throw out something random like "Fuzzy" or "Woodstock" (after talking about Charlie Brown and Woodstock). But he always goes back to "Baby". He'll pat my tummy and talk in a sweet voice to "Baby".
Asher thinks my belly button is Baby Tyce. I try to tell him 'That's my belly button. The baby is inside." And he'll just say "No, baby Tyce."
My belly itches like crazy. I have small bumps all over as well as some big circular eczema. My doctor said it's normal. The last few days my entire body has been itching. I wake up in the middle of the night scratching my feet or my hands. My arms itch. My back itches. My neck itches. My legs itch. I'm gonna try some Benadryl tonight. I don't get much sleep. And I'm afraid Kevin doesn't either.
I see families with 3 boys and it makes me happy.
And I still like being pregnant :)

April Snow Storms
We woke up to lots of snow this morning! Kevin had said he heard a storm was coming but I seriously thought it was just going to be rain. I was so surprised when I looked out the window and saw a thick blanket of snow. I called Rylan over and he said "This is perfect! Now we can shovel the driveway!" He was way more excited about the snow than I was and his excitement helped me to smile. So Kev got the boys in some snow clothes and out they went to shovel the driveway. He later said the boys worked on the driveway the entire time, never leaving to go play in the snow. Such hard workers!
We went up to the Doyle's for Conference and the snow continued off and on all day. I guess I shouldn't be so surprised to see snow in Utah in April!

Preschool Field Trip
Rylan's preschool took a walk today to look for signs of Spring. Asher and I joined along in the fun and the sun. I laid out a short sleeved shirt for Ry to wear and it took a lot of convincing to get him to wear it. Once we got out of the house it seemed to not bug him anymore and it was warm enough outside that I think he would have been too hot in long sleeves. He doesn't know it, but I think he was appreciative I insisted on short sleeves :)

They started with some play time at the park. My boys immediately wanted me to push them in the swings. I was already tired from our walk over to the park but I obliged and let them have some fun. Then Asher dragged me all over the slides until it was time for the walk on the trail.
Afterwards the preschoolers cut and glued their spring flowers and then we had our little picnic lunch with another preschool class. I sat and chatted a bit with Pam who was there with her Matthew. And then I had to give in to more begging from my boys who wanted me to push them in the swings again!

It was a gorgeous day and I came home with a tiny bit of color on my arms. I love spring time and preschool field trips!
