Rylan's Quotes

(April 6, 2011)
Rylan had a comb and was combing out my hair for me.
Ry: "Does that hurt?"
Me: "Nope"
Ry: "Does that hurt?"
Me: "No"
Ry: "Well, what can I do to make it hurt?"
WHAT? At that point I figured I didn't need his help anymore :)

I had just sung songs to the boys before bedtime. This usually happens in Asher's room but tonight we were in Rylan's room. I told Ry goodnight and was leaving his room with a fussing Asher when Ry said "Mom...you're a good mom." Brought a tear to my eye. I love that kid :)

As we were going into KMart I gave the boys a granola bar. When we left the store Rylan asked "Did you give us that granola bar so we wouldn't ask to buy toys?"
Me: "Yes, I was hoping it would distract you but it didn't work."
Ry: "Nothing will un-distract us...or distract us. Nothing will, mom."
I think he's right :)

Ry: "Mom, I love you and just you 'cause sometimes daddy doesn't listen."
Kevin and I both laughed because it's oh so true!

We couldn't find Rylan's shoes and it was time to leave for preschool so I grabbed his church shoes. He immediately started crying and said "I don't want to wear those shoes. The kids will laugh at me." I was shocked because Ry has never been one to care about what he wears and the fact that he was worried about kids laughing broke my heart. I gave him one more minute to look for his shoes but we couldn't find them. As he got out of the car at preschool he said "I hate these shoes" and walked inside wiping away his tears. I seriously felt so sad for him. Until he opened up the door and all the kids yelled "Hi Rylan!" and I knew it was a classroom full of sweet little 5 year olds :)
After I picked him up I asked about his shoes and he said no kids laughed and he had a good day. Later Kevin asked him and he said they were good shoes and he'd wear them again. But I still wonder why he was worried about kids laughing...did he see it in a show or book, or has it happened before? It's hard growing up!

Ry brought home an Easter goodie bag from preschool which included 2 hard boiled eggs, or "cold eggs" as he called them. He asked several times if he could eat one so we cracked one open for lunch. I don't remember the last time he had a boiled egg so I was curious to see if he liked it. I cut it in half and put a little bit of salt on his half and he bit right into it. After a few chews he said "The yellow part tastes like peanut butter."
Me: "It does?"
Ry: "Yeah, gross peanut butter."
He threw away the yolk and ate the white!
