Kevin and I were going to St. George for the night while the boys were staying at Tami's house. It's very rare that I'm away from my boys overnight so I was nervous and hesitant. I was often telling my boys how much I was going to miss them. I asked Ry if he was going to miss me and he said "I'll try not to."

Later he said "You can forget about us if you want. But then when you want to remember us you can take a picture and keep it in a place you'll remember so you can look at it."

The 3 boys had been playing in the bathtub. Rylan wanted Tyce to get out so they could fill up the tub with more water. I was busy blow drying my hair so I told Ry I'd get Tyce out once I was finished with my hair. After another couple minutes of waiting Rylan just got out of the bath, upset, and said "I've been in there too long waiting. I'm not going to shower for 2 days!"

Dinner and Swimming

While on my three mile jog this morning I realized I'm running out of time to train for the SF half marathon--eeks! I kinda forgot about it but knew it was close. It's only 7 weeks away--time to get on a training schedule!
I had put Tyce down for a nap before I left so the house was quiet when I got home. Kev had a few minutes before Dave came to pick him up, so we got to chat a bit while I stretched. We talked about our messy room and I was determined to get it clean today.
Before the boys woke up I was able to fold all the laundry that's been in my room plus start another load. When Ry and Asher woke up I made them some eggs and muffins and did a little cleanup downstairs. Seriously, our entire house needs major work!
After breakfast I had Ry and Asher clean up the loft and their room. They didn't get started for quite some time because they easily get distracted. But they knew it needed to be done before they could go swimming with their daddy! I worked off and on in my room as well as more laundry. I didn't get very far in my room but at least it was a start.
Before I knew it it was time to leave. I wanted to stop by Wal Mart to get the boys some pool toys before picking up Kevin from work. We were supposed to be there at 4:30 and I called him at 4:15 while in American Fork. We were just stopping at Wal Mart so we'd be late. I'm sure he wasn't surprised. We found what we needed and picked up Kev by 5:10. Rylan asked for some swim noodles but I didn't buy them.
We decided it would be best for Kevin to drop me off for my dinner date with the girls and then I'd just get a ride from Deborah to Mark's pool. I was meeting up with Deborah, Kacy, and Michelle Holbrook (while she's in town) for dinner at Chic-fil-A (we were all going to have our kids so we thought that would be perfect. Kacy and I ended up only bringing one of our own kiddos, but it was still perfect!) Target is just right there so that's where Kevin dropped me off. I was happy to find a pair of shorts (that I ended up keeping on after trying them on!) I walked over to Chic-fil-A with Tyce a little early.
Michelle and boys showed up so we got to chat for a few minutes before Deborah and kids came and then Kacy and Sydney. We talked a bit before getting our food and then talked and talked more and more! It was great! We left just after 8:00 and after a small detour Deborah dropped me off at Mark's pool.
The boys were excited to show me some tricks--jumping, twisting, kicking in the pool. They were having a ball! It was hard to get them out of the pool because they had "just one more trick". John and Aubrey were there with their boys, too, so I know my boys (including Kev) had a great time!
Asher and Tyce both fell asleep on the way home. Nice!

Today

I went to bed last night halfway thinking I'd get up early (6:00 at the latest) and go to the gym. Tyce usually wakes up around 6:30 so I asked Kev if he'd get up with him if I was gone. I woke up at 6:15. Darn. I have to be back by 7:20, the time Kevin leaves for work so I didn't quite have enough time.  I crawled back into bed and about 15 minutes later realized I could go on a run! Hooray! I just did my standard 3 mile trail run but it was great and I was happy :)
Tyce was awake when I got home so I fed him, sent Kev off to work, played a bit with Tyce, and then he got sleepy. So while he napped I showered before the other boys woke up. That rarely happens! All three boys woke up just as I was finished getting ready. We had breakfast, got the boys ready, and went to the library for story time. Asher jumped right in, joining the other kids on the rug, singing, dancing, yelling out answers to questions. Rylan stayed by me the entire time. He's never, ever sat on that story time rug! Tyce was interested in several of the stories. It was rather cute.
We checked out a bunch of new books and then tried to have some fun at the park. I pushed Ry on the swings for a few minutes and then took the little boys over to the baby swings. They were HOT!! So we tried the slides. Burning! So I made Ry get off the swings so we could go home...
Rylan is so good at picking up library books and just reading and reading and reading. I don't know how much he reads and how much he looks at the pictures, but he spends quite a bit of time with them. And he's a very good reader so I'm guessing he's really reading them? Tyce loves to flip through the book but he's quick to rip the pages so I have to be careful. Asher can't quite sit still long enough to get himself through more than two books. But I do love library day and all those new books to read!
I had been dreading dinner time all day (just like every day!) so I kept putting it off. Then the wind picked up, lifted our tramp off the ground multiple times (sooo glad Kevin stakes it down!!), and the power went out. Darn, I can't make dinner!! Kevin came home very hungry and after awhile suggested I go to Domino's for pizza. Just as I was getting ready to leave the power came back on. So I did something I could have done without power...made sandwiches!! Ha Ha! Well, actually, I did toast mine and Kevin's sandwiches and Ry had a hot dog so we did in actuality use the electricity.
Kevin spent the rest of the night working on his pinewood derby car for a work contest which is tomorrow. He's put a lot of work into this thing. Ry is very excited about it so I'm gonna take the boys up tomorrow and watch the races. Let's hope Kev wins!!

A few things I'd like to mention about the boys:
For the past year or so Rylan has made conversation like this: "Mom, what if our house was made of jelly beans?" "What if a tornado came and lifted our house up while we were still in it and we got so dizzy?" "What if..." "What if..." "What if....". Oh, so many "What if" questions. Well recently Asher has started asking them as well. And they've added in "What would you say if..." questions. I feel like all day long we're making up scenarios and how we'd react to them. I guess they're being creative? Imaginative? Inquisitive? Curious?

Rylan collected some rocks last week and got out his watercolors and painted them. We have many, many colored rocks all around the house. He and Asher have also collected sticks and painted them, too. They tape them to paper and hang them up, use them as pocket knives and swords. I promise my kids have toys. But why?!!!

I can't get enough of my boys. We're loving summer and I'm soaking in all these relaxed carefree days. Ahhhh!!

10 Amazing Years!!!

Time sure does fly, but really, ten years doesn't seem very long! I'm happy to say that being married to Kevin for ten years has truly been wonderful. I think we're both pretty laid back people (which seems to have been passed on to our boys as well!) so life together is fun, relaxing, hilarious (thanks to Kev--he cracks me up!), and easy going. Just the way I like it :) I feel like we understand each other (for the most part) and although our communication needs work, that should be an easy fix if either 1) Kevin gets hearing aids or 2) I start speaking louder!!

I sure do love my hubby.

Kev wrote a brief summary of how we celebrated our day:
"I worked for half day then we all went to BYU's 'Cougareat' where Janell and I had our first date so long ago. We reminisced of those times ...

• Janell laughing to tears
• Some 'slow' cleaner sitting down with us,  listening in on what was so funny.
• We believe we went to the Cougareat's Subway.
• I actually worked at the 'Scoreboard' grill for a semester when in college too.
• Me not having a car
• etc

Rylan got a pizza. Janell, Asher and Tyce had Subway. And I went to the 'Scoreboard Grill' for their delicious burgers and fries.

We then went to the Timpanogos Temple where we were married. It was 104 degrees outside (about as hot as it was 10 years ago ... remember?). Luckily, about the time we got out to take pictures, the clouds came in and it rain just a little bit to cool things down, just a little. We took a lot of pictures.

We came home, ate, put the boys to bed and watched Galatica."

I would like to comment on our lunch. It was Kevin's idea to go there (10+ years ago and today) and even though it's the Cougareat I thought it was pretty romantic. That place will always hold a special place in my heart :) I did point out to Kevin that ten years ago he was talking, I was laughing. Today we ate in near silence. I remember when we were newly married, or maybe even just dating, we were at a restaurant and he commented on the couple in the booth next to us. They were 'older' and did very little talking to each other. We wondered how that could be! Now look at us!!! I guess we recognize that we can talk anytime and we may as well just eat :)

We are going to St. George this weekend, leaving the boys at Tami's house (can I do it?). I had thought we'd have a huge 10th Anniversary vacation (cruise, Hawaii, Europe...) but Kev suggested we wait until next year when he has a six week sabbatical. Okay. So the day of our anniversary ended up just being quiet and perfect. It was fun to go up to the temple and just be on the grounds with the boys. Rylan ended up taking over the camera and took a photo of each individual person.

And some more pictures. The day we were married, Moroni and the steeple were covered in scaffolding. Big bummer! Today there was scaffolding on the steeple (on the side, not really in view here). I wonder if it's a yearly thing that happens every July? Isn't the temple just gorgeous??!

Ten years and three handsome kids later. I am so blessed--I love my life!

Summer Days

I'm really enjoying our relaxing laid back summer days. Summer just begun so I may feel differently in a couple months!
Rylan asked for eggs and muffins for breakfast yesterday but it was late and everyone else had already eaten. So when Asher woke up and while Ry was still asleep we made muffins. Ry woke up just before I put them in the oven and he was pleased with breakfast for today!
I did my Insanity workout. I'm on week 7 and have seen zero results...no change in the scale or measurements. Plus I've really cut my calories the last 4 weeks. I feel good, I just wanted to see my legs get more toned up and my stomach a bit flatter. It will happen, it will happen, it WILL happen!
The boys brought down all the pillows and blankets and made a big pile to jump in to. They did their chores, got ready for the day, ate lunch, and when Tyce woke up we went to the library.
The library has a summer program. Rylan has to read library books for 15 minutes a day and a couple other activities. Then he gets a prize. Asher has some activities to do to earn a prize. So today we turned in our first bookmarks! Asher got a bendy tiger (like a Gumby) and Ry got a sucker and a ring. They were pleased and excited to get their new bookmarks! We checked out some more books and a couple movies and then went to enjoy the park.
All 3 boys were in the swings for most of the time. Rylan is getting really good at pumping! The big boy swings are not by the little boy swings so it sure is wonderful that he can swing on his own while I push Tyce and Asher!
We came home to clean up the pillow pile then I put a library movie (The Great Mouse Detective) on for the boys and popped them some popcorn. I did a bit of cleanup and laundry and now it's time for Ry to get ready for Tball (5:30 game time). Time to turn off the movie!
Kev will probably get home after we leave so we'll all have dinner after the game. Salmon for me, frozen pizza for the others? Tuna on toast?
Tomorrow we'll go up to Heber Valley Camp for the Goodman Family Reunion. Yesterday my mom came over and taught me how to make cinnamon rolls for the breakfast on Saturday. We made 3 batches and froze them. I guess we'll see on Saturday morning if they turned out :)

I'm Thankful for Primary Teachers

Walking through the halls after Relief Society a few weeks ago just about killed me. These cute little sunbeams were wearing these ears on their heads, oblivious to how stinkin' cute they were. Once I saw Asher I couldn't stop smiling. I couldn't stop laughing.

And now to see these pictures and thinking of that day, brings a smile and a giggle to my heart again. We kept the ears hanging around the house because I wanted to take Asher's picture. Kevin finally did it for me and boy am I glad we have these pictures.

 The thing is, I've always loved playing with Asher's ears--they are so soft and bendy!

I certainly am thankful for my ears.
To hear my boys laughing, to sit outside in the early morning with Tyce, listening to the birds chirping and singing their good morning songs.
To hear the hymns being sung. Our ward choir has performed a couple really, really good pieces lately and about a month ago we walked into church late. The congregation was singing a song (I don't recall which one it was) and my heart swelled at the beauty of it.
I'm thankful for my ears to hear the cute, funny things my boys say.
And to hear them call me 'mom'.

Sometime around 5:00 this morning I woke up to hear Asher coming into our room pushing a squeaky wheeled grocery cart. He went straight to Kevin, but I rolled over thinking it was pretty funny. Kev got him back to bed and when Asher woke up later this morning he did the same thing-- walked out of his room pushing the squeaky wheeled cart. Oh, it was so funny to me! I spent the day looking for my birth certificate and social security card. My drivers license has expired and I need those two documents in order to renew. I called my mom and she has a copy of my birth certificate and about 10:00 tonight I finally found my ss card. Whew! It was a long day searching but I was able to clean out many file folders and read some old journals...embarrassing. While watching some sytycd dance, Ry and Asher started dancing. They have some of the cutest moves! I was trying not to laugh because Ry is very sensitive about those things. I try to explain to him that I laugh when something makes me happy. And their dancing certainly makes me happy! Other events of the day...laundry, a few rounds of memory, playing in the sandbox, insanity workout, tuna on toast for dinner (we all love it!), pulling weeds and dead plants out of the flower bed in front and from the sandbox. A good summer day:)
