Rylan
(October 14, 2012)
Rylan gets to go on a field trip for school tomorrow (to Scera theater to see 'The Adventures of Flat Stanley'). He's been so excited about it. Before he could fall asleep tonight (in the car on our way home from family dinner) he had to talk about it--what the weather was going to be, if he needed a jacket, about his lunch...
I mentioned I would put his lunch in a brown paper sack rather than his lunch box and he asked why. I said it would be less worry because he could just throw it away and he wouldn't have to worry about keeping track of it at the park and on the bus. We talked about a few more important items and then he got quiet. After a few minutes he said "Mom you're smart for doing that."
Me: "For doing what?"
Ry: "Putting my lunch in a sack instead of my fire truck lunch box."
I'm glad my son can see my wisdom :)
(October 22, 2012)
Ry: "Asher, are you building a fort? Cool. I know how to build lots of different kinds of forts. I'm a great fort builder."
Asher
(October 3, 2012)
Asher and I had cut out some dinosaurs yesterday from a coloring book. He carefully put them in a ziploc bag and then hours later couldn't find it. This morning I was cleaning up in their room and found the bag so I put it on top of the bookcase. I later told him I found it and as he was running up the stairs to get it he paused and said "Mom, if ever you find something I'm looking for, then you are my friend. Today you are my friend!"
Later he came to me and gave me a hug and said "You are always my friend."
(October 6, 2012)
Rylan will often tell me "I love you more" and then I'll say "No, I love you more" to which he'll reply "I love you the most". It goes on and on and eventually one of us will say "I love you infinity". We were having this 'conversation' and after each of us several times saying "I love you infinity plus one" or "I love you infinity plus infinity", Asher piped up and said "Mom, I love you one hundred!" He seemed so proud of himself for saying such a big number!
(October 15, 2012)
Rylan took off his pants after playing in the sandbox. He was making a honey sandwich and Kevin was videotaping the boys, forgetting Ry had no pants on. After watching the video back (we of course commented on the no-pants thing) Asher was laughing and asked "Why doesn't Ry Ry have any pants on? He's funny forever!"
(October 17, 2012)
We were out on a walk and Asher wanted to get out of the stroller and walk by me. He only had socks on so I asked him to take off his socks and walk in bare feet. As we were walking along he asked "Why are they called bear feet?"
I laughed, just imagining what was going through his mind...picturing himself walking along with these big, furry bear feet!!! So I explained to him how bare and bear sound the same but they mean different things and 'bare' feet means you don't have socks or shoes on, blah blah blah.
A bit later in our walk he decided he wanted to push the stroller with me while we ran as fast as we could. Once we got to our house he said "Wow, we have fast bear feet!"
(Okay, I guess I don't know if he meant 'bear' or 'bare' but the image in my mind was too funny!!"
(October 24, 2012)
Kev was getting ready to leave for work. It was early and still dark outside.
Asher: "Dad, where are you going?"
Kev: "To work."
Asher: "In the night time???"

Halloween Parades
Asher and Rylan both had parades at school for the kids to show off their Halloween costumes. Asher's was the day before Halloween and his preschool class was so cute! After their parade they sang '5 Little Pumpkins' for us. I loved it!
I loved watching that little dinosaur running home after school :)
Rylan's parade happened after their class party. I went in to help and got to read 'Where's My Mummy' (which was a very cute story). Deborah was watching Asher and Tyce and I should have gone to pick them up while I waiting for the parade to start. But I had a really good parking spot and didn't want to end up missing it so I just hung around. And then the classes started coming and they were walking so fast! I snapped a couple pictures of Ry but he was very concerned about keeping up with the rest of his class.

He's 4!
Asher has been looking forward to his birthday for quite some time. Almost daily he would ask to look at the calendar to see what day it was and how many days until his birthday. I thought about making a countdown chain but it was kinda fun to look at the calendar together.
I had to wake Asher up on his birthday...not something I would want for my birthday! He was so sleepy that he ended up eating his dinosaur oatmeal (his favorite! Quaker has a brown sugar oatmeal with dinosaur eggs that hatch when you cook the oatmeal) in the car on the way to the gym. AND he wore his pjs to the gym.
After the gym we stopped at Gavin's house to pick him up to come play with Asher. I planned on packing us all a lunch and having a picnic at the park but the furnace guy who was supposed to come at 5:00 rescheduled for noon. Instead the boys played like crazy until Tyce was awake from his nap and Rylan was home from school. They played in the bathroom sink which I'm pretty sure that's their favorite thing to do. They fill up the sink with water and fit as many toys in there possible to go swimming. It makes such a mess but it was Asher's birthday so I allowed it :) They played inside and outside and upside down! They really were everywhere and didn't stop having fun the entire time.
We got to the park around 4:00 and it was beautiful! Asher and Gavin were side by side the entire time. Rylan was the perfect little buddy for Tyce. He really was incredibly cute with him, taking him down the slide, across the bridge and following him around the park. Melts my heart :)
Charlie came to pick up Gavin so they could get family pictures taken. Asher was sad to see him go but he had the promise of chicken nuggets for dinner from Wendy's that kept him happy. (Yes Wendy's. Asher is not great at eating dinner unless it's chicken nuggets or pizza (well, even pizza is iffy). I'm not a Wendy's fan but I gave in for Asher.)
I love this series of pictures of Asher and Gavin.
So after the park we went back home to finish decorating Asher's birthday cake and wait for Kev to get home from work. As soon as he got home he showed Asher his gifts from Grandma and Grandpa Doyle--a card with cash and a halloween haunted house cookie decorating kit. Both boys were thrilled with that! (And maybe it really was for both boys.) Asher was excited to show me his $4 and made sure I put it in a safe place when we left for Wendy's.
After dinner Kevin had a special surprise for Asher's birthday. He set up the tent in the loft for the boys to sleep in and he slept in their with them. They were so excited about that!
We had Asher open his gifts and seeing his delight made me so happy. He saw this stuffed animal cheetah at Toys R Us and if ever asked what he wanted for his birthday, that's what he would bring up. Kevin wasn't thrilled about getting him yet another stuffed animal, but he really plays with his stuffed animals all the time. And Asher was so happy to open his gift and see it! He immediately gave it a big hug--cute! We also gave him a balance bike that he was pretty neutral about but I wanted him to have a bike. Every kid needs a bike, right? Now to get him to get out and ride it.
My parents came over to give Asher a gift--Power Rangers mini figures and a play doh road roller. Rylan opened the Power Rangers right away and they played with them together before bed. We also sang Happy Birthday to Asher and dug in to his cute dinosaur birthday cake. After frostys from Wendy's the boys didn't eat much cake, but I sure did! I love birthday cake!
After my parents left the boys got ready for bed and nestled into the tent. It was late but they really wanted to tell stories by flashlight. They each got to tell a story or two and then lights went out on a fun filled fourth birthday for my happy, sweet Asher. Love that kid!

Asher at 4:
Height: 39.75 inches (38%)
Weight: 35 lbs (43%)
Favorites:
TV Show: Dinosaur Train
Food: "Sandwich (honey) and yogurt and gogurt and a cheese stick"
Movie: Land Before Time
Toy: "Power Rangers except my dinosaurs" (He says 'except' when he really means 'also'!)
Book: Curious George
Friend: Gavin
Color: Pink
Candy: M&M's
Game: Candyland
Thing to do with daddy: "Play Freeze Touch, it's like tag, and I like to go to an ice cream place."
Thing to do with mommy: "Play with you...dinosaurs. Cause I love you."
What do you like to play: With Gavin and dinosaurs
Asher loves everyone! He calls his teachers (school and primary) his best friends and he's willing to be friends with everybody. He's a smiling, happy boy which is contagious. He loves all things dinosaur and asks multiple times throughout the day to watch a show or a movie. He asks for dinosaur oatmeal for breakfast and a honey sandwich for lunch...every single day! He still will rarely eat dinner and we're still working on him. He says "Bampa and Bamma" for "grandpa and grandma" and he has a hard time with his hard c sounds. Cookie is said "too-tee" and school is "stool". I think it's really cute but Kevin is worried it won't be cute when he's 11!! Asher loves his daddy. He also has a major sweet tooth. He gives me a hug every morning when he wakes up and carries around stuffed animals.
Oh, we love this boy so much. He's fun, happy, cute, kind and just a joy to have around!

October 22
All the leaves have been blown off our three trees. Fall is really here! I've been running in the mornings with some neighborhood girls and this morning was beautiful. It was dark, even once we got to the trail where the sun usually starts to come over the mountains. The trail was covered with yellow leaves. It looked and smelled like fall. I love those small moments of beauty.
Tyce is a busy baby, a tornado really. Even Rylan today complained of the mess Tyce makes! He loves play dough. He'll carry it around and if he ever sees a container of it he'll whine until I let him play with it. He's always been a great eater and these days it seems he eats constantly. He loves beans. Good thing because we eat a lot of them! Rylan got a fake, squishy rat at a birthday party. Tyce also loves to carry that thing around. It grosses me out and I try to avoid it, but for some reason Tyce is happy with it.
Asher often says "See, I told you". Sometimes he didn't really tell you anything but lots of times it makes perfect sense. Today someone knocked on the door. I went to open it and he said "See, I told you someone was there." Actually, I heard the knock on the door and that's how I knew someone was there! It makes me laugh. He has yet to learn how to unbuckle his seat belt and it can drive me crazy. I'm working on not being bothered by little things like that--who cares that I have to crawl to the back of the van to unbuckle him?!

Silly Asher
This boy just enjoys life and knows how to have fun. These are just a few random pictures of him from this month.
At Rylan's soccer game:
He came to me with these all over his body! They are clips for some temporary paper/fabric shades that we have...temporary as in 6 + years. Maybe I should consider getting real blinds.

Fall Fun
Charlie called and invited to go up the canyon with them for a wienie roast and s'mores. How could we say no to that? We couldn't!!!
We had to make a trip to the grocery store to get some hot dogs and buns and then we waited patiently for Kevin to get home from work. We were all excited to go!
There's this red rock picnic area pretty close to our house and it's gorgeous. Charlie and his family were already there with the fire going. Once we arrived our boys jumped out of the car and were off exploring, digging in the dirt, sliding down the hills and just enjoying nature. Oh, it was so nice to be out in the open air!
We all roasted our dogs and had carrots, grapes and chips, too. The kids were, of course, ready for some s'mores so they got the sticks loaded up with marshmallows. Kevin and I managed to not eat a s'more (it was a sad, sad day...we've been trying to be a bit healthier and two hot dogs for dinner was enough--i guess!! :) But Rylan and Asher enjoyed them and Tyce munched on graham crackers and marshmallows. We got to talk and just relax and I was happy :) It got a bit chilly so most of us ended up in jackets. This fall weather is perfect for me!! Seriously, this is what life is about--family time, in nature, no agenda. Ahhhhh...
