Ry's Quotes

(January 7, 2011)
Okay, so this isn't Ry being cute or funny, but more so a funny conversation I overheard while he was playing with friends.
Ry: "If this says ding dong then that means a bad guy is coming...ding dong, ding dong, ding dong."
Cody: "Wait, I don't have a ding dong."
Kade: "I don't have a ding donger, either."

(January 10, 2011)
We've been working hard trying to get Ry to use big boy toothpaste. This baby toothpaste wasn't quite doing the job well enough. Plus, we thought we'd enforce morning brushing as well. So every day he gets a chance to get 4 stickers for his special teeth brushing calendar. I took him to the store at the beginning of the month and he picked out some sparkly happy face stickers. Today, after putting some stickers on his chart he said "I like happy face stickers. They make me do this..." where he gave me a big happy smile. I have to say, I like Rylan's happy face because it makes me do this...(big happy smile of my own)!

After telling Rylan he is going to have another brother he turned away and said "But I wanted it to be a girl."

(January 14, 2011)
I walked Ry to preschool and some of the sidewalks are still snowy. Even the sidewalks that are shoveled are too narrow for the stroller. So Ry and Asher were bundled up in the stroller and Rylan asks "If I got ran over by a car would I die?" I try to explain that that would depend on how fast the car was going or where on his body the car hit him...But I repeatedly told him that no matter what, it could be very dangerous so it's important to always be careful. Ry: "So why are you pushing us in the road? You should be on the sidewalk if you want to be safe." Busted!

(January 16, 2011)
While looking at the back of his cereal box, Ry: "This is serious. A heart made out of hearts!)

(January 16, 2011)
Ry: "Mom, why does it have to be boy, boy, boy? Why can't we just have a girl?"
It may take awhile to get him used to the fact that he's having another brother!

(January 17, 2011)
Kev: "I got Prison Break" (on Apple TV)
Ry: "What's that?"
Me: "It's a tv show about a guy who breaks out of prison. Do you know what prison is?"
Ry: "No"
Me: "It's another word for 'jail'."
Ry: After thinking for a few moments "Did he dig a hole and go through the pipes and come out of jail through the ground?"
Me and Kev: Completely shocked and nervous for Ry's future. After asking some questions we found out that something similar happened on Word World (a cartoon). Maybe that show will be avoided if that's what they are teaching kids!

(January 19, 2011)
Ry: "Keep my eggs warm because there's chicks inside."
Me: "What?" as Rylan stands up and I notice he was sitting on plastic Easter eggs!

(January 21, 2011)
Rylan's really into having races. Whether it's getting dressed or eating a meal, the race is on in his mind. We were eating breakfast and just as I sat down to eat mine, Rylan said "Look mom--I'm gonna beat you!" and held up his nearly gone breakfast burrito. Two bites later and sure enough, he was done before me.
Kev chimed in: "It's not a race, Rylan. It's about the journey."
Ry: "No, it's a race."

(January 23, 2011)
Ry: "No"
Asher: "Yes"
Ry: "No"
Asher: "Yes"
Ry: "The correct answer is 'No'."

Ry: "What does Heaven look like?"
Me: "Think of all the pretty things you've ever seen and that's what you'll see in Heaven."
Ry: "Flowers are pretty. And I like the rain. It probably rains in Heaven so the flowers can grow."

(January 26, 2011)
Ry: After saying 'hi' to the baby in my belly: "How come when I talk to you tummy it doesn't talk back?"
Eeks! Can you imagine?!

Hide and Seek

Kevin Speaks:
Rylan wanted to play hide and seek. I hid behind the curtain; he found me. He hid in the middle of the floor under a blanket in plain sight; I found him, I hid behind the couch, he went upstairs and I found myself hiding for a few minutes and he never came back down. Turns out he went to the potty while I eventually got bored and started reading again.

Much later, we started playing again, but this time ... when I found Rylan, Asher was with him. I picked Asher up and we hid in the closet together. Rylan found us. My turn ... I started to count as Rylan and Asher dashed out of the room. I could clearly hear them both. When I walked into the room where they both were, this is what I found ...

I could have also mentioned that he stayed "hidden" like this for a good two minutes as I pretended to look for them (and take a picture).
Rylan is hiding under the brown blanket and Asher is hiding...

Ultrasound Day!

20 weeks and time for an ultrasound (yesterday)! I'd been a bit nervous about getting this ultrasound. I think because I was hoping for a girl but mostly expected a boy. The night before I had a dream that I had my baby and it was a little black girl. Knowing that certainly was not going to happen, I assumed it had to be the complete opposite--a little white boy! And all morning I was watching my boys playing, thinking about how much fun I've had with my boys. I guess I was prepping myself!
The ultrasound guy (I'm sure he has a more technical name) started out by calling my baby 'it' or just saying 'the baby'. A couple of times he said 'he' and I figured he had seen something. Then one shot made it obvious to me that, yes, my baby certainly is a HE!! I looked at Kevin and we both just kinda laughed. Kev was afraid I was going to cry, but I didn't. Really, just seeing my baby move his little arms and legs and being reassured that all was well, and I was happy. My due date is June 1st and according to the ultrasound it's May 30th. Pretty close!
My dad was at our house watching and entertaining my boys. We stopped at Macey's on the way home to get a couple blue balloons for Ry and Asher to tell them they were getting another brother. Rylan's response? "I wanted it to be a girl." He turned away and was a bit sad about it. I tried several times throughout the day to talk to him about it but he just wanted to talk about other things. Truthfully, I was consoling both of us! Each time I started feeling a bit disappointed I'd look at the ultrasound pictures or just think of seeing my baby move and the sadness would go away.
So I really don't want to sound too disappointed because I'm excited (now)!! My boys truly are my joy and it will be fun to add another boy. Asher looked just like Ry when he was born so I wonder if this little boy will, too! Asher and Ry have such different personalities (opposites in so many ways) that it will be interesting to see this little one's personality. Both my boys have a red tint to their hair...will this one, too? It's just so exciting to think about it all!!

This little profile picture is always my favorite! Look at that cute little round head :)

Where's Asher?

We were getting the boys ready for bed and as we gathered in the bathroom to brush teeth Rylan asked where Asher was. We called for him and he didn't answer so I set out to find him. He wasn't far, but he was too engaged to answer our calls.

My boys sure do love that itouch!

Happy New Year!

2011 and we're ready for a great, exciting, fun year. We welcomed the new year in with my family so that's a good start!
We were actually supposed to be at a cabin, but some recent major snowstorms left the cabin without electricity and even access. So those plans were canceled which was a major bummer. We weren't going to let that foil all our celebrations though. Tami was hostess for the night so we had somewhere to party together. Appetizers for dinner has become a New Year's Eve tradition, and we had plenty of them! So yummy :)
The kids ran around and played, watched tv, made some masks, and rang in the New Year with the adults.

Super heroes!

The girls played games and talked (one of our favorite things to do!) while the guys hung out downstairs watching the tube.

Tami had 12 grapes on skewers for us, which is a tradition in another country. I think you are supposed to eat one grape with the chime of the clock at midnight and your wish will come true. We just popped them into our mouth as we pleased! But we watched the ball drop and started cheering and dancing and kissing and hugging and welcoming in the new year as best we could!

We rounded out the night with some Kinect. After a brutal boxing match between my parents :), they called it a night and headed home. Deborah and Abbi left as well to get home to their own cozy beds.

Kade was the only smart one who went to bed before midnight. The rest of us crawled into bed close to 2am. My little family slept over at Tami's house in a nice warm room and guess what? Asher went right to sleep and slept all night! I guess that's all we have to do next time we're out of town--keep him up until 2am!!
On New Year's Day we all slept in as long as possible. Kevin and Garren spent their day watching Lord of the Rings. Every time I tried to lay down for a nap, Asher would find me and need something. I decided to head home so he could take a nap (and I could shower and paint my toenails!). Kevin and Rylan stayed until dinner time. Then we grabbed a pizza and basically called it a day.
Happy 2011!!!
