Rylan
(November 1, 2012)
We got to the end of the song "The Farmer in the Dell" at music class. His teacher asked who was going to be the cheese and Rylan pointed at her and said "YOU, you're cheesy!"
(November 6, 2012)
Asher was pushing the chairs all around trying to make a chair train. It was right as I was finishing up dinner and trying to get it on the table (and the boys moving the chairs around has always been a small annoyance to me :) I asked Asher to stop moving the chairs so we could sit down to eat and he whined "But I'm trying to make a train."
Me: "Why don't you guys play with toys. Why do you have to play with things in the house that are not meant to be toys?"
Ry: "Because we're kids and that's what we do."
Ha! So true!! Wisdom from a 6 year old.
And then he said "We don't know much."
(November 15, 2012)
I was quizzing Rylan on his piano notes with some flash cards. After I had quizzed him on one or two he said "You're never gonna trick me! Probably not...well, maybe..."
(November 17, 2012)
Ry: "This is so awesome. You know why?"
Me: "Why?"
Ry: "It just is."
(November 30, 2012)
Ry and Kev were hitting golf balls outside in the front yard. Kevin hit the ball displaying proper golf form and the ball went about 30 yards. Rylan ran and measured the distance with a rock. Rylan then put the ball in the exact place Kevin had hit it and, using the techniques learned, hit the ball a bit further. Ry was so proud! He wanted to do it again. So this time, Kev really swung and the ball went very far, much further than Rylan had ever anticipated. With his hands in the air Rylan said with a hint of bitterness, "Really? (long pause) ... Really?"
Asher

I was out with my sisters and got home after Kev had put the boys to bed. Asher and Ry were still awake so I went to say goodnight to them. Asher grabbed my hand and said "I like you".
So sweet :)
(November 2, 2012)
Asher is great at rhyming and he loves to play rhyming games. While playing today he said "Mom, bomb". I said "Mom, Tom". He got a little smirk on his face and said "Tom, Jerry" and started laughing so hard it made me and Tyce laugh. Oh, he's a cutie!!
(November 6, 2012)
We had talked a bit about voting. I voted while Asher was at preschool so when I picked him up he asked about my "I Voted" sticker. Later at home he asked "Did you vote for the United States?"
Me: "Yes, I voted for the president of the United States."
Asher: "The United States is football."
I have no idea what that means but I still thought it was cute. The US and football definitely have a strong tie.
(November 19, 2012)
Asher: "What day is it?"
Me: "Monday"
Asher: "I miss daddy on Mondays. Only on Mondays."
This boy loves his daddy so much...every day of the week!!
(November 24, 2012)
We had some leftover popcorn from the movie. (We saw Rise of the Guardians and I thought it was really cute!) Asher asked Kevin if he could have some. Kevin said 'no'. Asher turned to me and said "I'll obey you everyday if you let me have popcorn."
If only that were true :)
(November 28, 2012)
I bought some apple seconds awhile ago and they've started to rot :( I threw away the rotting apples and made some applesauce with the rest. When it was finished I gave a bowl of yummy, freshly made applesauce to Asher. He said "Why is this called weird applesauce?"
Me, laughing: "It's not weird. It's just normal applesauce."
Asher: "Did you make it with the dirty apples?"
I remember Ry calling a rotten apple a 'dirty apple'... or was it a rotting banana? We've been eating homemade applesauce for a few years now but this
batch was a little chunkier than normal. I'm guessing that's why he was
saying it was weird?!

Thankful
We (kind of) did our thankful turkey again this year. I'm always tempted to keep them because they can be so cute but I opted for just taking a picture.

Rylan: friends, food, dad, crafting stuff, toys (specifically the iPod), music, food...again, flowers
Dad: hair, my wife, breakfast, chocolate, bed, clean stuff , doctors, prayer, running shoes, my hot wife
Mom: 3 fun happy boys, running friends, my hubby, the right to vote, snow shovels and nice neighbors, my body, visiting teachers, snow, a good nights sleep, slippers

18 fun and fabulous months!
Tyce did a little bit of growing up to celebrate his 18 month birthday. He got to go to nursery for the first time at church and he did fantastic! I took him in and sat him in a chair for the lesson. He sat there quietly, kicking his little feet. When the lesson was over the kids started putting their chairs away. I took Tyce off his chair but he wanted back on. I think he feels big and important sitting in his very own chair. The nursery leader took out the toys and Tyce immediately grabbed some mega blocks and started playing. I decided I may as well let him play and as much as I wanted to just stay with him I didn't want him to get used to that and think that's the way things work. So reluctantly, I left. Sad. My baby is growing up! He didn't make a peep and I slowly walked to Sunday School all by myself since Kev was out of town.
After SS I decided to peek in the door to see how Tyce was doing in nursery. I walked out of my room and the nursery door was open. Tyce was sitting at a chair at the table eating his snack. He was turned around and saw me. And still he didn't make a peep. I guess deep down I wanted him to be sad so I could take him to class with me :) But he wasn't. So he stayed in nursery, I went to Relief Society. His nursery leader said he did great and didn't cry once, didn't even make a noise actually. It was a success...for both of us :)
Later in the day I dropped the lid to his cup and I said "uh-oh". Tyce piped up "uh-oh"! It was so cute I made him say it over and over! At dinner time (Kev came home from Vegas just before dinner) I was telling Kevin and the boys about it. As if on cue Tyce dropped his water and said "uh-oh". We all laughed, including Tyce. Gosh he's cute!!
Tyce has his 18 month check up on Friday so we'll see then how much he weighs. But at 18 months he:
is a great eater. He had some candy just before Halloween for the first time and went crazy for it (of course!) I try to keep it hidden and out of view but if Tyce sees something sweet, he wants it. He's great at eating everything else though, too, including most veggies (not a fan of broccoli or cauliflower).
He sleeps really well, going to bed around 8:30-9:00 and awake around 8:00. He takes one nap, about 3 hours.
Carries around anything small enough to fit in his hands...bouncy balls, cars, animals. He recently started putting things in a bucket or bag and he'll carry the bucket around.
Likes small stuffed animals (much to Asher's dismay!)
Still makes the nasaly, grunting noise
Started walking about a month ago and I still think it's funny to see him walking. It's just super cute!
Gets a bit jealous if Rylan or Asher is sitting on my lap. He'll cry and scootch his way in with us.

Kevin was gone over the weekend for the Ragnar in Las Vegas. He left on Thursday with John and Mark and came home Sunday night. We missed him greatly but our weekend went smoothly.
Friday it snowed! The boys had snow ice cream and we all had some hot chocolate to warm our bones. Saturday morning we woke up to about 10 inches of snow--wow! After breakfast I went in the crawl space to get our winter gear so the boys and I could go outside. Tyce ended up falling asleep around 10:00 so it was Rylan, Asher, and me playing in the backyard. What fun! The boys did snow angels, we had a snowball fight, built a snowman, and started building a snow fort when Asher suddenly realized his hands were freezing and he had to go inside. He was in tears and needed me to help him warm his hands. Ry stayed outside. After Asher's hands warmed up I decided to go shovel the driveway. Ry tried to help me but we couldn't find his snow shovel and the plastic jack-o-lantern wasn't working as well as he had hoped. So I built him a snow mountain while I shoveled and he played. Wowzers, it took me a long time! I kept at it and towards the end my neighbor Maria came over to help me finish. She had been shoveling her driveway with her son and came to help when they had finished. I was so grateful! By the time I got inside my shirt and pants were soaked with sweat and my back was aching. Whew!
The rest of our Saturday I just wanted to lounge. The boys played and watched a movie. We decided to get some dinner and then stop at my mom's house for some entertainment. We stayed longer than anticipated (happens every time) and got to watch the first quarter of the BYU/Idaho game. It was 21/7 when I left and BYU continued scoring and won the game.

The leaves were falling as we were running on the trail yesterday. I can't seem to get enough of autumn--it's beautiful! There's a spot on the trail that as the sun rises it shines on these huge yellow trees that just seem to glow. Wow!
As I was walking home with Asher from preschool the wind was gently blowing and leaves were blowing all around us. We gathered leaves on our walk home to make a turkey craft. We got plenty of yellow and red leaves so hopefully after school tomorrow we can all sit down to do it together. Our weather has just been so perfect it's hard to think of snow (which should actually be coming tonight or tomorrow). I'm sure I'll be caught up in the beauty of the snow when it gets here!
Kev left for the Vegas Ragnar today with Mark and John. He was very excited, looking forward to a week of fun and laughter...oh, and running! He's been trying to run quite a bit but then became sick. He ran through the sickness and eventually went to the doctor for a prescription of something. After he went through his time on the antibiotics and didn't see any improvement he requested I call the doctor's office. They suggested he come in for another appointment. So he went last night and was diagnosed with pneumonia. The doctor advised him not to run but Kevin didn't pay much attention to that. The doc almost gave him a prescription for an antibiotic he would be given if admitted to the hospital. The side effects were joint pain and a possibility of bursting his Achilles heel. Seeing as how he'll be running 26 miles this weekend he declined that medication for a different one that will hopefully take care of his pneumonia without bursting Achilles heels.
I spent my day babysitting and trying to clean up. Colton came over this morning just after 8:00. He and Asher played so well together all morning. It was great! After the boys ate lunch we took Asher to preschool and then Kev, Tyce, and I took Colton to preschool up at BYU. Driving on campus always makes us reminisce. Kevin has more BYU memories than I do. Of course he was there longer than I was and I didn't live on or near campus. We had time to call in and do a quick drive thru for a yummy Quiznos sandwich. We drove down to Center Street to meet up with Kev's Ragnar van. He stuffed his luggage where he could and climbed in the back of the van. Oh, just thinking about it makes me claustrophobic! Hope he had a semi comfortable drive to Vegas!
I got back to Spanish Fork just in time to pick up Asher from preschool. He immediately showed me his plastic bag kite he got from preschool as he ran through the yard to make it fly. He wanted to sleep with it tonight :) Tyce is usually napping at this time but his schedule was messed up from our Provo trip. (He did sleep in the car for about an hour so at least he got some rest.) Rylan had his 'fun foods' 4H class after school so I had about an hour to go grocery shopping before picking him up. I also dropped off mail and clothes to Deborah who should be having her baby any day now. I'm keeping my phone close by at all times!!
After picking up Ry we picked up Christian and his 2 brothers to come play at our house. Asher had fallen asleep after our grocery shopping trip and it was very difficult to wake him up. Eventually he joined in the fun. Even Tyce was occupied with the big boys the majority of the time. The 6 boys made a giant, enormous mess of our house but they all played well and I was able to make some spaghetti for dinner. The 3 friends left after 7:00. I made my boys quickly eat, Rylan finished his homework, Asher did some cleanup. I rushed them all to quickly get ready for bed. There are still messes everywhere but that will have to wait until tomorrow.
Rylan missed three words on his spelling test last week and he said it was because I didn't quiz him enough. He paid dearly for that comment as I've been quizzing him like crazy all week. He has a hard time accepting responsibility for his actions so I need to teach him and work with him on that.
I think Tyce said 'fish' yesterday. He was pointing to the goldfish crackers as he made a noise that sounded like 'fish'. And he said it several times! I couldn't get him to say it today though. I remember before Rylan really started talking we were playing with a shape sorter toy and as I held up the circle he said 'gurkle'. He said it a few times as we were playing and then never said it again. And if I remember correctly is was quite some time later that he said his first word (unless I count 'gurkle') and really started talking. Maybe Tyce and the 'fish' incident will be the same! Or maybe he really did say 'fish' and he'll start adding more words to his vocabulary!
