I decided frequent reminders for this year's upcoming Mother's Day would ensure a better day than last year when the only acknowledgment I got was a cookie from church. For some unknown reason Kevin did absolutely nothing, not even offering encouragement to Rylan to tell me Happy Mother's Day. It was a sad, depressing day for me. Perhaps my selfishness got the best of me this year but it paid off :)
After getting to sleep in I went downstairs to find Kevin making breakfast (scrambled eggs and toast). Asher was very excited to give me a present and I too was very excited! I opened an iTunes gift card from Asher, a King sized package of Reese's PB cups from Ry, and a gift certificate from Kevin for a cleaner to come get my house clean! Wahooey!!
At church the mothers got the yearly cookie which I quickly sneaked into my bag. I admit I couldn't resist a bite or two during Primary :) After church Asher ran up to me and asked "Where my cookie?" His cookie? Once we got into the car I gave him a big chunk, one to Rylan, and a bite to Kev. I was trying to not be too selfish :)
We were in charge of the monthly Doyle FHE dinner and because our house was such a mess, I was busy with planning a baby shower for a friend, and being 9 months pregnant, we asked Kev's parents to host at their house and we'd bring the food. Kev's vote was Cafe Rio style salads which is what we had. It was a fun night with the Doyle's where some group shots were taken. First the grandchildren, then the adults.
As a mother I know I have a lot to learn. I can't imagine my own mom acting as selfishly as I did! :) My mom truly is someone I look up to. She is someone who is caring and loving, a hard worker, full of good advice, willing to serve, and everything a mother should be. I've been blessed to have her as my mom.
And I've been blessed to be a mom to Rylan and Asher. They are the lights in my life. They make me smile and laugh and cry tears of joy. How did I get so lucky? I love my boys to pieces and I'll gladly share my cookie with them next year, too :)
