Snoozing

This is what happens at 4:30 when Ry doesn't take a nap. I let him watch "Martha Speaks" (he loves that show. Now he sometimes even asks for it over Curious George...life is changing at the Doyle home!) while he ate some crackers so I could give Asher a quick bath. I came downstairs, what, 20 minutes later at the most, and there he was, crackers gone, head laying on the table, eyes closed. But isn't it so sweet?
He's at the transition stage where he still needs a nap but he doesn't want to take one. And if he does take a nap, then he refuses to go to bed when it's time. If he doesn't take a nap then either he falls asleep in the late afternoon or he's a bit more grouchy than usual. I've come to the semi-depressing conclusion that life is actually a bit easier when he doesn't take a nap...only because by 8:00 I'm ready to sit on the couch and read a book or watch some tv with my hubby. And if Ry is refusing to go to bed and we spend the next 2 or 3 hours putting him back in bed, I go to bed frustrated and exhausted, which is just not how I want to end my day!
So for now, we'll just deal with the late afternoon catnaps and the slight grumpiness so we can have a peaceful night :)

girl! I totally understand! I remember when Damon was in that stage...3 or 4 o'clock would come around and if he hadn't taken a nap, it was, well...not fun at my house! but if he did take a nap (even at 1 pm) he would be up until 10 at night! So frusturating! He is now to the point where he can last longer, and I think he has officially out grown the grumpy late afternoon stage. Damon usually will take a late afternoon bath (it helps to keep him occupied for a little while) and It's totally worth it to keep them up...because tonight he had a good dinner, jammies, brushed teeth, read 5 books ,and he was asleep 5 minutes after that...and it was 7:03 pm! awesome! sorry this is such a long comment...I just know exactly how you feel, I've been there!

We are at that stage too but I can't stand no nap days so I just make nap time an hour earlier so by the time he does lay down to sleep its around usual nap time. That is really cute though. I love when kids fall asleep in random places. So cute!

oh.. we deal with that sometimes here too. Was Ry buckled in I hope at the table? I just know your table is high. ;) That's so cute though.. I love when they are so exhausted they just crash anywhere.

I think we are beginning that stage now too, as much as I hate to admit it to myself. I've decided to keep Daylen up from his nap tomorrow and see what happens...hopefully we will have a more peaceful night than we did tonight.

We are at the same stage with Oliver as Rylan is. Most days I don't bother to have him nap, but some days when he hasn't slept great the night before (for one reason or another) he will fall asleep during a show that I purposely put on for him during his regular nap time. It really does make life easier (for the most part) when he doesn't nap. I just can't go anywhere in the evening or he will fall asleep in the car (or stroller as he did today)!

The hardest part now is that I don't get my personal time during the day that I so love! Oh well! At least now it's warming up so we can spend time outside!

Oh man, that is such a tough stage! And it always seems like it lasts forever. Good luck!

So cute!! I wish AJ would do that. He too, prefers to not take a nap. but he sooooo needs one!!! But I'm with you... if he doesn't get the nap, we are able to put him to be at like 6:30pm. Which is cool with me!!

Your boys are adorable!!

Tat is soo cute! I can't imagine the no nap stage right now since Abbi takes like 5 or 6 naps a day!!
